Estancia Grande outplays Indios Chapaleufu II in the Argentina Open Polo Championship

Estancia Grande Sancor Seguros displayed a fantastic style of play against Indios Chapaleufu II Cardon, showing that the Argentina Open Polo Championship is a tough place, as the former made a victory over the latter, 18-13, at the Cathedral of Polo (Campo
Argentino de Polo).

The Estancia Grande men created some significant plays in the first four chukkas, wrapped up points from Agustin Merlos and Lolo Castagnola in the opening round, preserving the advantage until the final whistle and ending a long journey with a triumph.

The match began on a very high tone, as the duo foursomes wanted to get the opening goal of the game.

Agustin Merlos and Lolo Castagnola of Estancia Grande scored the opening goals of the game with each two that were responded by a single notch from Eduardo Heguy. Estancia Grande was enjoying a three-goal edge, 4-1, after the seven and a half minutes of
play.

The second set of play was also begun by a couple of goals from Agustin Merlos, taking the Estancia Grande’s lead up to five.

However, the players of Chapa II were not far behind. They managed three back to back goals, closing out the second period with trailing by 6-4.

Agustin Merlos connected on a penalty hit in the third set of play, increasing the Estancia Grande’s lead on the scoreboard.  Later on, his teammate, Lucas Monteverde joined him by a field goal.

Heguy balanced the results within a few minutes, converting a pair of penalty shots. Estancia was leading the score by 8-6, after the three chukkas of play.

The fourth frame of action started by one goal each from Merlos and Castagnola. Heguy registered the only goal of the period, concluding the first half, with Chapa II sitting down by three notches, 10-7.

In an astonishing move, the defensemen Chapa II kept Estancia Grande off the scoreboard for the first time in the eight-chukka fixture.

Although the Chapa II did not show wonderful advancement in the attack, it managed a couple of goals and cut short the Estancia Grande lead down to 10-9.

A couple of notches from Monteverde and a single goal from Merlos again expanded the Estancia Grande lead up to three. But it did not continue for long.

Eduardo Heguy and Astrada helped Chapa II to reduce the difference to a single goal, 13-11, with two chukkas left to play.

In the second last chukka, Merlos recorded a pair of goals that were replied by a single goal from Julio Arellano.

A single notch at the hands of Alberto Heguy in the final chukka did not help Chapa II to make a comeback. Castagnola and Monteverde aided Estancia Grande to increase its total.

Following a brilliant showdown, Estancia Grande won the first game of the Argentina Open Polo Championship by 18-13.
