Li Xiaoxia crowned the title of women’s singles at the Volkswagen cup

The finals of the women’s singles round of the Volkswagen Cup was played at the Tianhe Gymnasium Guangzhou, China. The event started on the 23rd and is now in its final stage. The winner of the women’s singles  received a prize of US$ 50,000 along
with a Sirocco Volkswagen Car.

This year the prize money was very high for the Volkswagen cup and indeed for Li Xiaoxia it was a very lucky final. A total of eight best Women Table Tennis players from around the world participated in the event.

The event which started with the mesmerizing voice of Paulini a Fijian born singer, staged one of the best show of Table Tennis for two days.

The Final hurdle of the women’s singles was contested amongst Wu Jiadou from Germany and the number one seeded player of the event Li Xiaoxia from China. In the semi finals Xiaoxia won over the Japanese player Fukuhara Ai by 4-2. Whereas Jiadou won against
Li Jiao from Netherlands in a six games match (9-11, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-7).

In the first round of the event she defeated Yanfei Shen from Spain in a match extended over six games scoring (9-11,11-7,11-6,11-9,8-11,11-9). From the very first win Xiaoxia remained consistent and determined to win the title of the event.

In the final Jiaduo dominated the first game and she was leading by a close margin 12-10. In the next four games Li Xiaoxia made a recovery and proved that German player is of no match against the Chinese skills. The match extended to five games (10 – 12,
11 – 7, 11 – 9, 11 – 4, 11 – 3).

Li Xiaoxia showed a spectacular performance on the Table with her powerful topspins and her command over the table tennis ball. She was playing all over the Table after the first game she started to play the typical Chinese game and it rewarded with the
title of the event.

Li Xiaoxia is currently holding the number two position on the International Table Tennis Federation ITTF world ranking; she was on number one rank in the February ranking. Li was not able to win any singles women title in the recent ITTF pro tour but this
win will compensate for the defeats she has faced recently.
