“Aguero stays sincere to Atletico Madrid”

Argentine and Atletico Madrid’s striker Sergio Aguero has agreed a deal extension with his current club that stretches till 2014 after speculations arose that the Madrid bound striker has been approached by an English club Tottenham Hotspur. But the striker’s
eagerness to stay at the club was confirmed when he signed his contract extension.

Aguero has played a major role since joining the club in 2006, helping it to achieve immaculate success step by step. Aguero played his first official game for the club against another Spanish club, Athletic Bilbao. He achieved a new feat at the club when
he became the third highest scorer in la liga in 2007-08 season. At the club he formed a decisive partnership with the Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan and helped Atletico achieve greater heights. Aguero, at the club scored some very important and face saving
goals against the likes of other la liga clubs like Villareal, Barcelona and Real Madrid to help Atletico finish fourth and secure a champions league spot for the first time in over a ten year period.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp had a certain number of Spanish strikers in his mind like Villareal’s striker Guiseppe Rossi, Athletic Bilbao’s Fernando Llorente and Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo to sign in this January transfer window, but none of his big signing
hopes have come good as he has failed to offer a negotiable amount to any of the clubs. The latest being for Madrid’s striker Aguero for a reported amount of around 38.5 million pounds.

On the other hand, Atletico’s president Enrique Cerezo has mentioned that they would have never sold the duo of strikers Aguero and Forlan as they have been with the club for some time now and have settled well, playing well and are devoted to it. He also
mentioned that the players themselves don’t want to leave the club. One important thing to mention over here is the ability of the two strikers that enabled Atletico Madrid to win the UEFA Europa league beating a premier league club Fulham during 2009-10 season.

Looking at his international career, Aguero represented Argentina in 2007 U20 world cup and scored some important goals that led Argentina to cup victory. He helped Argentina win the gold medal in 2008 Olympic Games. He made his debut for Argentina’s national
team against Brazil in 2006.

Some reports suggests that the deal could have gone through if some tax restrictions couldn’t have come in the way but all these things are believed to be nothing but just the rumors.

Redknapp was clear in his claims that he wanted any of those strikers in order to boost Spurs chances to finish in the top four and reclaim the champion’s league berth. Spurs are currently sitting fifth in the league table just three points behind the current
holders Chelsea. Spurs can hardly miss any available points now as they are being given a hard fight for that fourth spot by the premier league “black cats” Sunderland who are just a single point behind Spurs.

As Aguero has confirmed that all of his transfer news were just speculations and rumours, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp will have to find other ways of maintaining the current spot while Atletico’s expectations would have been raised after their star striker
confirmed a deal extension.
