Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel dominates the track at the second day’s practice in Barcelona

There is no stopping the Red Bull Racing again this year. At one after the other pre-season test sessions, the team has demonstrated great pace and reliability with its new car, RB7. Once again, at the Wednesday practice, Red Bull maintained its dominance
on the track, as Sebastian Vettel stamped the fastest lap on the time-sheet.

The final pre-season test is underway at the Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona. As the session kicked off on Tuesday, the Red Bull driver, Mark Webber conquered the track with his fastest lap in 1:22.544s, while the second day of practice saw Vettel come out
victorious.

The reigning world champion clocked the best timing in just 1:21.865s, which was not only the best for the day but also marked the quickest lap in pre-season testing so far.

While talking to the media soon after the test the 23-year-old sated, “It was a good day and a good time, although to be honest, it’s difficult to say where we are, as the lap times of the teams are all over the place. We’ve done a lot of laps again today,
which is good. We have had no major problems with reliability throughout testing and the speed looks good as far as we can judge, but I think we have to wait until after Melbourne – maybe in Malaysia or China – to really see where we are.”

Red Bull Racing had the best car on the grids last year, and bagged both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship. This year again the team has been able to threaten all its rivals even before the start of the season.

So far, Ferrari seems the closest competitor of Red Bull. The young German, Vettel proclaimed earlier this week that he believes to see both the Ferrari drivers, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa as top rivals.

On the other hand, both the other legendary teams, McLaren and Mercedes GP still struggle for the reliability of their cars. This Wednesday’s practice further disappointed the 2008 champion, Lewis Hamilton, as he was not able to complete any more than 57
laps. His new McLaren, MP4-26 has not been short of reliability issues since the beginning of the season and yesterday’s practice was another similar day for the disappointed Briton.

Similarly, Mercedes GP has also not shown competitiveness on the track to date. At the second day of testing, although the team driver, Nico Rosberg was able to finish 100 laps but the pace of the car did not let him stand anywhere above 8th place
on the time sheet.

The surprise for the upcoming season is thought to be the junior Red Bull owed team, Toro Rosso. The team driver, Sebastian Buemi finished behind Vettel, in 1:22.396s.
