“I hope Real Madrid win La Liga and the Champions League,” says Brazilian legend Ronaldo
Retired Brazilian legend Ronaldo is hopeful that Real Madrid will be able to win the La Liga and the Champions League. The retired veteran, who is himself a former Real Madrid player, stated that he hopes that the nine-time Champions League winners will
be able to go the distance and achieve what has been expected from them.
Los Blancos are at the top of the La Liga standings, six points clear of fierce rivals and current Spanish champions Barcelona. They also managed to finish the group stage of the Champions League as winners of Group D.
Jose Mourinho’s men have so far grabbed a total 34 points, while the number of games they have played is 13. They have only dropped 5 points in the league so far. Madrid have been in outstanding form in the Champions League as well.
They emerged as group winners at the end of the group stage as they did not drop any points from the played matches. They were able to completely dominate Group D, standing victorious in all their matches, home and away.
This past Saturday, Los Blancos continued their remarkable run this season as they were to take all three points from the Madrid derby. Jose Mourinho’s men played host to their city rivals Atletico Madrid, and they were able secure a 4-1. Madrid were able
to completely dominate their rivals and ease their way to victory against a 10-men Atletico.
On the other Barcelona suffered a 1-0 loss on their visit to Getafe. Hence, increasing opening up their points gap with the leaders in the Spanish Primera.
Ronaldo emphasized the importance of Madrid’s current form, however he did not comment on whether Los Blancos could end Barca’s dominance.
While talking to AS, he was quoted as saying:
“I can’t say whether Real Madrid and Barcelona are of the same level or whether Madrid play even better than Barca. I can only say that I hope Madrid win La Liga and the Champions League, and beat Barcelona as well,
“I try to follow La Liga as closely as possible. I didn’t have the chance to see the derby, but I know that Madrid won and are in great form. I think that they can achieve great things this season” added the retired veteran while discussing Real’s win against
Atletico.
Widely considered one of the best strikers of all time, Ronaldo played for Real Madrid from 2002 to 2006.
