Spanish La Liga Roundup – Week 22 – Real Sociedad

It was a tough weekend for Real Sociedad. The tenth placed team had the opportunity to stick to their ninth placed Getafe but with the high-flying Real Madrid playing Real Sociedad in the Santiago Bernabeu, it was definitely hard for Sociedad to cope up.
Real Madrid played extraordinarily well and won the game 4-1 in their home ground. Real Sociedad barely gave them a tough time and an attacking line played by Jose Mourinho paid off for the second placed Los Blancos side.

With Real Madrid drawing and losing and creating a gap of seven points between themselves and Barcelona, they definitely had to win the game against Real Sociedad to keep the pace in terms of points. The game was always considered to be a one-sided affair

The Real Sociedad coach had to be sure that he at least gets a point from the Santiago Bernabeu. Martin Lasarte did not opt for a defensive strategy and tried to play an attacking line up. He played a risky formation of 3-5-2 and wanted to find the back
of the net while being away from home.

It was Claudio Bravo Munoz who stood between the two poles as a goalkeeper. Mikel Labaka, Mikel Gonzalez and Ion Ansotegui Gorostola were the three centre backs. There were five midfielders consisting one holding midfielder, two wingers and one centre midfielder
and an attacking midfielder. The holding midfielder was Zurutuza. Xabi Prieto and Gorka Elustondo Urkola played on the flanks. Jeffrey Sarpong played in the centre midfield and Dani Estrada played as an attacking midfielder. Jeffrey operated as a box to box
player while Dani Estrada went forward to help the attackers in scoring goals.

Up front, there were two strikers for Real Sociedad. Raul Tamudo Montero featured right behind Antoine Griezmann. Griezmann was often left alone up front as Tamudo fell back and played deep in the midfield.

Real Madrid had a new line-up starting the game for them. With the Brazilian star Ricardo Kaka playing in the attack line along with Emanuel Adebayor, Mesut Ozil and Cristiano Ronaldo it was hard for Real Sociedad to hold them down. Kaka found the back of
the net as soon as seven minutes and Ronaldo added a brace to it later on to make the score line 3-0 at half time.

With the second half starting in the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid tried to keep the possession of the ball. During a counter attack, Tamudo found himself alone on goal and shot the ball; however, Iker Casillas saved the ball from going in but it bounced
off Alvarao Arbeloa and found the back of the net.

With Real Sociedad pulling a goal back, Real Madrid started to attack again and with a few minutes left in the game, the new on-loan striker showed his coach why he should be in the first team. Emanuel Adebayor got the ball at his feet after a through ball
from Mesut Ozil. The former Manchester City striker shot the ball towards the goal and found the back of the net.

The game ended with Real Sociedad losing 4-1. It was definitely a moral shattering defeat for the tenth placed team in the Spanish La Liga. Real Sociedad needed at least a point from this game to keep them close to the ninth place. Now, Sociedad are two
points behind Getafe who are on even terms with Atletico Madrid – thirty points each.

Real Sociedad are now going to face a bottom of the table side – Osasuna. The tenth placed Spanish La Liga side has to do a lot to get back into their stride. With Atletico Madrid facing a tough team next week – Valencia – Sociedad have the chance to move
ahead of them in terms of points.
