Pierrick Fedrigo is positive for the 2012 season, fully recovered from his illness

Pierrick Fedrigo was unlucky in the current season as he was mostly ill in 2011. He was suffering from Lyme disease which prevented him from participating at the Tour de France 2011 and several other races.

The cyclist, however, made a strong come back towards the end of the season as he secured a few wins to his credit. He is hopeful to have better luck in the coming season to prove his true capabilities.

Despite missing most of the season because of his illness, Fedrigo returned to the track in an impressive manner, grabbing several victories.

He secured the second position at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal and GP de Plumelec-Morbihan. The cyclist also finished the Circuit de la Sarthe with a 4th overall position.

The Frenchman told Sud Ouest, “From the beginning of the season, I had noticed some changes in my state of health, I was tired, I had some muscular pain. In persisting in racing, I asked more of my body than it could manage. I went beyond my limits. It was
only afterwards that I discovered that it was due to my illness, but it was too late”.

Pierrick started his professional career with Team Credit Agricole in 2002 and left the team in 2004.

He then moved to Bouygues Telecom in 2005. After spending 6 years with Jean-Rene Bernaudeau (team’s general manager), the cyclist finally moved to the French squad, FDJ, in 2011.

Fedrigo was somehow lucky to have been sidelined at the Tour de France, as it helped him completely recover from the Lyme disease. He mentioned that the disease is a very severe one and the worst part about it is that it “comes and goes”.

The decision to withdraw from the French grand tour proved to be a blessing in disguise because it is considered to be one of the toughest stage races in the sport.

Riders across the globe agree to the fact that it is quite difficult to ride at the Tour de France even if one is 100 % fit, whereas Pierrick was suffering from a severe illness.

He finally returned to racing in August 2011 after fully recovering from the disease. Fedrigo’s new season will start in February. The cyclist is eyeing the Etoile de Besseges to start 2012.
