Rameez Raja refuses to take over as PCB’s COO – Cricket News Update
Rameez Raja, the former Pakistan’s skipper has rejected the Pakistan Cricket Board’s offer to take over as its chief operating officer.
“Rameez politely thanked the chairman for his offer and turned it down saying he does not have the time due to his prior commitments as a commentator and expert in the next few months,” a reliable source in the PCB said.
Rameez has also offered his services as a commentator in the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka in United Arab Emirates.
Currently, Subhan Ahmed is serving as the COO of the board. He was given the post in December 2010 and had represented Pakistan on international forums at different occasions.
The reports have revealed that Rameez has given some suggestions to newly appointed chairman Zaka Ashraf, for bringing improvements in the structure and functioning of the board.
“He wants the chairman to immediately appoint a cricket committee made up of former greats who can submit a list of things that need to be done to improve things in the Pakistan cricket set-up,” the source revealed.
The former skipper led a successful cricketing career and had been part of the Pakistan World Cup winning campaign. After quitting the cricket, he turned into a successful commentator, cricket expert and a host in Pakistan and
Abroad. Earlier, he had also been working as chief executive of the board in 2003-2004, when PCB was being headed by Tauqir Zia and Shahryar Khan.
Last week, reports indicated that Dr Nauman Niaz was set to become the new COO of the board and was to announce his appointment after coming back from Dubai in a couple of days.
It was also revealed that many candidates had shown their interest for the coveted post, but Dr Nauman was considered the right choice. He is doctor by profession and also writes articles for the different newspapers.
He also has prior experience of working with board at different posts on different occasions and has served the PCB as a media manager in the past.
Dr Nauman is also an author of the book which is written about Pakistan cricket history in 2005, with the name ‘The Fluctuating Fortunes’. The book comprises of 4768 pages with four volumes.
