Super Espresso now retires to become a broodmare at Craig and Holly Bandoroff’s Denali Stud

The four-year-old filly, Super Espresso who was being trained by Todd Pletcher and falls under the ownership of the celebrity chef Bobby Flay has now retired according to the decision taken by her connections. She has had an exciting racing career of nearly
two years.

Breaking the special weight maiden did not prove to be the easiest for Super Espresso as that she was able to accomplish after failing five times and then finally clearing it the sixth time at the Belmont Park on 27th October last season with
jockey John Velazquez.

Her new season began off with a pair of victories, first it was an allowance race that Super Espresso won at Aqueduct on 1st May and the next one which was almost a month later, on 2nd June was Sky Beauty at Aqueduct which covered a
distance of a mile.

These races continued unless she raced her last eleventh race during her last season. She was able to win thrice, came second just once, third twice and the rest of the positions ranked from coming fifth to tenth. Super Espresso won the Allaire Dupont Distaff
Grade 3 at Pimlico Race Course on 21st May.

Payton d’Oro was the one who qualified as a runner up for this race and the next in line to break through the wire was Life At Ten. After this success she raced six more times but could not claim any victories whatsoever.

The last race that she participated in was the Falls City Handicap Grade 2 at Churchill Downs on 24th November riding with Javier Castellano for a distance of 1 1/8 mile. Super Espresso was able to manage the fifth position only and the race was
won by Arena Elvira.

“With her terrific race record, platinum pedigree, and super model looks, she’s a triple threat to produce equine stars in the future”, Flay said.

She will now stay at Craig and Holly Bandoroff’s Denali Stud that is located near Paris as a broodmare. She is one of those mares who got to become the session topper at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling race by being the sixth highest priced for a $1,100,000.
