Pakistan Cricket: Delay in the announcement of World Cup Squad

Pakistan Cricket Board has delayed the announcement of his 30-man squad for the 2011 World Cup. The national selection committee held a two day meeting in Lahore on Friday that ended in vein. However, the dead line of proclamation for the World Cup Squad
for the PCB is 5 January. Besides, other countries have already announced their squads for the mega event that will be starting from 19 February 2011.

Chief Selector Mohsin Hassan Khan accepted that the announcement had been postponed due to the unavailability of some players. He said that we had have a lengthy discussion over the issue of announcement. We don’t want to make decision in hurry because there
are still some days to go in the deadline. We want to make sure that before the deadline if some of the player gets clearance from the PCB?  He added that we are still deliberating the chance of Kamran Akmal, Danish Kaneria and Shoaib Malik. Despite of the
fact Pakistan had to announce the squad on 19 December. But board made a request regarding extension that later on accepted by ICC.

Owing to the fact, Pakistan Cricket has suffered a lot because of so many controversies occurred last year. One of them was the spot fixing scandal that did not only effect the announcement of preliminary30 man-squad but also in the preparation for the biggest
cricket event.

 The last year was the worst on the side of Pakistan. Seven Pakistani players were alleged over having relations with book makers by an English Tabloid “the News of The World “on the tour of England. In result, ICC suspended the three main players then Captain
Salman Butt, Mohmmad Aamer and Mohmmad Asif. Salman Butt and Mohmmad Aamer are still fighting their case to get clearance from the ICC. There selection in the World Cup squad is almost unfeasible.

On the other hand, Pakistan Team is in the New Zealand and has to play the ODI series after two Test match series. But Selection Committee hasn’t yet announced a squad for the ODI series against New Zealand

The delay in the announcement causing damage to the preparation for the mega tournament that is just round the corner. The captain and coach doest look happy with the decision because they have no idea that with what team they will have to go in the tournament.
now this is really essential for the Selectors that they should not wait any longer and should announce the final squad.
