Halton League finals going to be held at STOBART Stadium

Halton Table Tennis League final rounds are going to be contested on May 6, 2011. The event will be staged at the newly built STOBART Stadium Halton, England. It will be the biggest evening for the sport in the country to be contested at the grand venue.

The event will start 7.15 pm local Time and there would be matches contested for seven titles including the most prestigious one the Men’s Singles. The semi-final proceedings of the championship will be a contrast of youth against experience. In the men’s
singles Mal McEvoy the evergreen title holder will account for Matthew McCormick. In the second semi-final Ray Jackson, Halton Table Tennis Club will face Michael Lunn from Sutton Manor.

Michael Lunn was a strong contender of the title in 2010 but he withdraws due to an injury from the championship. He will be striving to win the title in order to overcome the trauma he faced after the injury last year.

In the Handicap Singles final hurdle Jordan Abbott Halton Table Tennis Club has an advantage of nine-point start compared to Jamie Lunn in the 21-up match.

Ray Jackson & Karen Tonge from the Halton Table Tennis Club will face John Hughes & Helena Dennett from Daresbury in the mixed doubles event. The match for the Kevin Higgins Memorial Trophy will be contested amongst Mal McEvoy and Fords’ Rob Hughes. The
Kevin Higgins trophy is a special category of the event it is contested in the memory of late Kevin Higgins.For McEvoy it’s going to be a big night as he will be featuring in two more finals of the event.

McEvoy will join forces with Fords’ Phil Luxon to compete in the Open Doubles final. The Junior Singles fianls will feature Michael Lunn from Sutton Manor and Scott Fletcher from the Halton Table Tennis Club.

Marie Wright the Mayor of Halton will grace the mega event and will be giving away most of the trophies to the winner. The Kevin Higgins Memorial Trophy will be awarded by the widow and his son to the eventual winner of the title. The player who shows an
extraordinary performance will be going home with the titles of the League.
