Round One: Mark McNulty makes it to the top 5 at the 2011 Mitsubishi Electric Championship 

Mark McNulty is the only Irish golfer in the top 5 cult.

The Mitsubishi Electric Championship initiated on the 21st of January and ended its first round observing a decent score of 65 from McNulty.

Statistics state that the Northern Irish charged the Hualalai Golf Course with a total of 12 pars, 5 birdies and 1 eagle.

With 58 professional victories in record, McNulty is aiming for his 8th Champions Tours’ victory and carded a 65 with an 8 under par for the contention.

Starting with one brilliant birdie at the first hole of his back nine, the 57-year-old golfer pared the next two holes to eventually grab one massive eagle. The eagle appeared at the par 5, 4th hole of the tournament
which was later followed by one more birdie at the 5th hole.

A golfer whose interests are piano, fine arts and Koi fish thus ended his outbound with a 31 that held one birdie from the 7th hole of the par 72 GC as well.

As for the back nine play, the 16 time European Tour winner carded only two birdies from hole number 10 and 16. The golfer however maintained the consistent approach he held at the start of the tournament and ended the inbound
play with a score of 34.

Currently, McNulty is tied with the American Jeff Sluman and the German Bernhard Langer at T4. Sluman and Langer carded 8 and 7 birdies with 1 and zero bogeys respectively.

The top five thus hold the likes of McNulty, Sluman and Langer at T4 with 65 who are led by the American Tom Watson and Ben Crenshaw with a 64. The T2 cult in return is being piloted by Russ Cochran who caters a minus 10 in his
scorecard.

The current leader carded a total of 2 brilliant Eagles and 6 birdies to grab a one shot lead over the 42 player field. Cochran, the 52-year-old is thus enjoying his first ever lead in a Champions tour and managed a total of 6
under par with a 30 in the back-nine play at the Hualalai Golf Club.

As for the runner up cult, Watson is aiming for his 14th Champions Tour victory and carded a minus 8 after the first round of the championship. The 61-year-old golfer is basically defending his title in Hawaii this time
and recorded a bogey-less-collection of 2 brilliant Eagles with 6 birdies.

The Irish golfer will tee off for the second round of The Mitsubishi Electric Championship at 1:00 p.m. (local time) Saturday.
