Rumesh Ratnayake appointed as Sri Lanka coach for the Australia home series

Former Sri Lankan pacer Rumesh Ratnayake has been appointed as Sri Lanka coach for the only upcoming Australia home series starting from the month of August. Ratnayake, 47-year-old, has been named after former assistant coach,
Stuart Law, has stepped down after serving the team with the head coach Trevor Bayliss, since 2009 to the ICC World Cup 2011 final defeat against India.  

After the World Cup’11 defeat, Bayliss was also left the coach job.

Sri Lanka Cricket chief Upali Dharmadasa also cleared that Ratnayake has been appointed only for the Australia series. Ratnayake, who made his Test debut in Test cricket in 1983, has played 23 Test matches by taking 73 wickets
including his best bowling figures at 6 for 66 runs.

However, right-arm-bowler has also played 70 ODIs and has taken 76 wickets setting his average at 3.68.

Team Australia is scheduled to make tour in the month of August-September to play three Twnent20 matches, Five-match One-Day-International series and for 3 Test match-series.

However Law also performed his services on the recent tour of England, where he left his coaching job during the tour to join Bangladesh team as coach.

While talking to media, Law told that job security was more important for him and he had asked to the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) if they would let him to continue the job till November but the board had refused so he signed
in as Bangladesh coach.

While talking to media the 42-years old coach quoted, “I asked the SLC if they would want me to continue after November but they couldn’t confirm anything so I told them that I won’t continue after the UK tour. The most important
thing for me is job security.”

Former coach, Law had also shown his interest to work on some permanent basis but board was not ready to work with him anymore. Law at the right time got opportunity for coaching the Bangladesh team. He said that he was happy to
work with one of the best team, Bangladesh.    

However after joining the team Bangladesh, Law, the Australian former player, was replaced with Jamie Siddons, the former coach of Bangladesh. Law will join the Bengali Tigers on the tour of Zimbabwe in the end of this year.
