Four more Pakistan cricketers named in spot-fixing tape

Pakistan cricket continues to remain mired in controversy. A new video footage has emerged which shows the player agent and alleged bookie Mazhar Majeed boast about how four more players were involved with him in spot-fixing. Earlier, the trio of Mohammad
Asif, Mohammad Amir and Salman Butt were allegedly involved in spot-fixing in the Lord’s Test match against England and were promptly suspended by the ICC.

According to the video, Majeed has claimed that the four other player were Imran Farhat, Umar Amal, Kamran Akmal and Wahab Riaz. Out of the four, Farhat has been dropped from the side due to his poor form, while Kamran has not been a part of the squad since
the series against South Africa. He was again not selected for the tour of New Zealand but the Pakistan Cricket Board has not provided any reason why.

The footage seems to have been a continuation of the one that was revealed by the British tabloid, the News of the World earlier that had indicted Butt, Asif and Amir.

According to reports, this new footage had taken placed in Majeed’s house, and shows him talking to the sting operating journalist from the tabloid. According to the footage, the conversation goes like this:

Reporter: “What’s the latest situation?”
Majeed: “I’ll tell you who we’ve got then. We’ve got Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif, Salman Butt, Wahab Riaz … that’s six, yeah? Imran Farhat … that’s seven out of 11 players.”

Majeed has also described his modus operandi; go after the younger and more vulnerable players in the team. In the video, he sayd, “It’s long-term thinking. These boys are going to be around years and I’ve got the best boys.”

Currently, the trio of Asif, Amir and Butt are facing an ICC disciplinary committee hearing that will decide on their innocence or guilt. However, the emergence of this video footage will make things more difficult for the Pakistan Cricket Board and according
to some of the experts, the PCB chief Ejaz Butt could face an axe.
