Elmira College men’s volleyball team wins against State University of New York Institute of Technology by 3-0 on Saturday

Saturday was not a good day for the State University of New York Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team. The match that was played at the Campus Center saw SUNYIT come off as the losing side. They lost the match quite decisively to Elmira College,
who were able to make a clean sweep over the losing team. Not only did Elmira College win the match by winning three back to back sets, they did so by posting set scores that left no doubt of their superiority. By the time that Elmira College was celebrating
their win with pumping fists in the air and SUNYIT was heading back to the locker room with heads hung low, the score board was displaying final set scores at 25-18, 25-17 and 25-17.

Elmira College performed better than the losing team in almost all areas of the game. Both their attack was strong and Elmira’s defense did not give much room top SUNYIT to score. However, the offense of Elmira played a key role in enabling the team to win
the whole deal.

Prominent among Elmira team players were the names of Eric Sandman, Ryan Gelenitis and Michael Vellutato. Sandman kept the pressure on SUNYIT by keeping the score board ticking. He was able to make the highest number of kills for his team by adding a total
number of 14 kills. Not only that, Sandman also contributed by making well times digs that amount to a figure of eight. Sandman was helped by teammate Gelenitis who also provided kills that amounted to 13. Vellutato also made his presence felt by registering
a total number of 37 assists.

The first set of the match started off with Elmira taking dominance. They were able to take the lead early on and kept SUNYIT at bay all through. Despite the fact that SUNYIT tried to overtake Elmira, they could not manage to secure a win. SUNYIT bagged
the first set of the game at 25-18 quite smoothly.

The second set of the game saw the performance of SUNYIT show a further decline. As a consequence, Elmira did not have a hard time in keeping their rivals under pressure. Elmira kept on hammering kills upon kills on SUNYIT who could not sufficiently manage
to counter with an effective defense. As a result, SUNYIT ended up losing the second set of the game to Elmira at 25-17.

With two sets down, SUNYIT was determined to make a win and take the match to a fourth round. The two teams stayed almost neck to neck with each other during the entire set. However, near the end of the game, Elmira managed to pull away and seal the deal
by bagging the set at 25-17.

Next in line for Elmira is a match against Hilbert College that is scheduled to be played on Wednesday.
