Daryl Impey and Christian Meier join Australian GreenEDGE team 2011- Cycling News
Sporting director Neil Stephens of Australian GreenEDGE team has further strengthened his team as the two cyclists Daryl Impey and Christian Meier has been made part of GreenEdge for the upcoming season.
The South African professional cyclists Daryl Impey is currently ride for RadioShack team who has announced their termination by the end of this season. Impey started his professional career in 2004 and won the fifth stage of Giro del Capo. He also took
the fourth stage and overall leader’s jersey in Tour of Turkey in 2009. Recently, he grabbed first place in South African national time trial championships.
He was pleased to join GreenEdge team and said, “I’m hoping to get a start in one of the Grand Tours for next year and aim to have a good Ardennes Classics campaign. I’ll also be aiming for my first ever win in a World Tour race along with going for the
overall win in some of the smaller tours.”
Impey wants to ride strongly in the next year Ardennes Classics race and further one day racers also encourage him including GP Cycliste de Quebec and GP Cycliste de Montreal WorldTour.
National road race champion Christian Meier has also signed contract with GreenEdge team for 2012 season. He is currently ride for UnitedHealthcare team and started his professional career in 2007.
The 25-year-old Canadian racing cyclists overall took runner-up spot in Vuelta Chihuahua and Vuelta El Salvador. He also secured second place in best young rider standing in Tour of Georgia.
He was really happy and said, “I’m very excited about the prospect of returning to the World Tour and being part of such an ambitious project. It will be great to race alongside some of the most experienced riders in the peloton, as I’ll be able to learn
plenty from those guys and continue to develop as a rider.”
GreenEdge team also signed contract with other cyclists including, Jack Bobridge, Simon Gerrans, Matthew Goss, Travis Meyer, Robbie McEwen, Stuart O Grady, Simon Clarke and Baden Cooke. The final WorldTour team’s roster will be announced in November.
