Julio Cesar: Inter are still a side to be feared, despite the absence of Samuel Eto’o – Serie A Update

Inter Milan goalkeeper, Julio Cesar, believes that the Nerazzurri are still a strong side and are one of the most feared outfits in Europe, despite the exit of the star striker Samuel Eto’o. Eto’o joined the Russian outfit Anzhi for a reported 27 million
Euros transfer move. The striker was ranked amongst the top scorers in the Italian Serie A and his departure left a vacuum in the Inter squad.

However, Cesar is confident that the Nerazzurri are still going to make the best out of the 2011/12 season in the Serie A and also in the UEFA Champions League. The Brazilian keeper hailed Eto’o as a great player and teammate and thanked him for his services
to for the Serpent.

“Eto’o will be missed. He was a marvellous teammate. Samuel gave energy to the squad in these years. He’s also a guy who doesn’t know how to lose and he gave us this mentality. I wish him well in Russia,” the Inter keeper told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Furthermore, negating the doubts regarding the 3-4-3 technique of Gian Piero Gasperini in the absence of Eto’o, the shot stopper said:

“I don’t think the side is weaker than what it was. We’re still strong. Players have gone, but players have come in too and the side as it was. In addition, we have a new Coach with different ideas.”

Although there were a lot of speculations regarding the future of the Nerazzurri playmaker and Dutch international Wesley Sneijder, he stayed and that gave the club a sigh of relief. Cesar believes that Sneijder plays a very important role in the squad and
his absence would have affected the overall outcome of the matches.

“It’s a good job that he has stayed. Everything would have been more difficult without him. Wesley is a player who makes the difference. He’s technically very strong, but he also has experience which helps the side.”
