Tendulkar’s life’s proudest moment

The legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar regarded Saturday as the ‘proudest day’ of his life after India thrashed Sri Lanka convincingly by six-wickets in the nail-biting final of the ICC World Cup 2011.

“Couldn`t have asked for more. This is ultimate. It is the proudest moment of my life,” said the emotional legend.

After managing the burden of Indian cricket on his shoulders for so many years, Tendulkar got a ride of honour on the shoulders of his teammates after India’s memorable victory in the showpiece event in 28 years. Indian players dedicated their World Cup
triumph to the master blaster.

Admitting that there were tears in his eyes when Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit the ball for winning runs to script India’s glory in the mega event, Tendulkar said “Yes, they were happy tears. So I don`t mind. We have stuck together through ups and down.”

The maestro thanked his team for putting up a tremendous performance and further admired all his coaching staff, especially adventure and motivational expert Mike Horn for his excellent effort during last few days.

Mentioning the consistent performance his team recently, he said “We have been very consistent during the last two years and this is a result of that.”

Highest run-scorer in both Tests and ODIs, Tendulkar has 18,111 ODI runs with 48 centuries and 95 fifties to his name.

By making six mega event appearances, the right-hander has already equaled Javed Miandad’s record of participating in most number of World Cup tournaments. The star batsman also holds the record of being the only player to reach 2000 mark in World Cups by
making 2278 runs in 45 games and is followed by Australian skipper Ricky Ponting’s 1743 runs in 46.

This was Tendulkar’s last World Cup appearance, as he had showed his intensions to retire from international cricket before the 2015 event. India’s victory in the recent mega event has definitely added feather to the cap of Tendulkar’s long and remarkable
cricketing career.
