Volleyball latest: Luxembourg will host the 2011 Novotel Cup at the weekend

Another exciting event of volleyball awaits the European teams. The 2011 Novotel Volleyball Cup will run through the weekend. This is the annual event, which is organised by Luxembourg Volleyball Federation. Few other local partners and sponsors have also
collaborated with Luxembourg Volleyball Federation to make this campaign successful.

The courts have been set up in Hotel D’Coque in Luxembourg City. Both gender teams will hit the podium. The men’s squad includes:

  • Belarus
  • Scotland
  • Luxembourg
  • USA Stevens Ducks

*N.B. the USA Stevens Ducks is the American Team from the Stevens Institute of Technology.

Likewise, the following women’s teams will participate in the tournament:

  • Iceland
  • Scotland
  • Luxembourg
  • Liechtenstein

This year, the Novotel Cup will also feature “Denitza Krivova Trophy”, in order to pay homage to the late player Denitza KRIVOVA of Luxembourg. Denitza KRIVOVA had great contributions in the junior and senior national teams of Luxembourg. She bid farewell
to life in April 26, 2008. A tragic car accident caused the major loss of Denitza. However, Luxembourg Volleyball Federation sticks a memory for her services. The most valuable player of the tournament will be awarded the “Trophee Deni Krivova”.  This is a
great gesture of everlasting emotional attachment with the demised player.

The teams are supposed to install their bases at the venue today (6th January, 2011). The tournament will officially start on Friday, January 6 and four matches will be played. The 2011 Novotel Volleyball Cup will progress with the same pattern
for next two days. The final rankings will be revealed on Sunday, January 9, 2011.

The home teams are fully prepared to take on the visitors. Both teams from Luxembourg will open the tournament on Friday afternoon. The women’s team is scheduled to face Liechtenstein, while the local men’s team will collide with American team. The home
team will surely benefit from the emotional support of fans. Moreover, the familiar court will be a plus point for them. The Luxembourg Volleyball Federation is hoping for the good turnout of spectators.

Good luck Luxembourg!
