Steven Gerrard to miss Liverpool’s clash against Manchester City, confirms Kenny Dalglish – EPL News

Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, has confirmed that the Reds influential skipper, Steven Gerrard, will be unavailable for the upcoming crucial Premier League tie against the current leaders, Manchester City at Anfield.

The Reds’ influential skipper’s current season has been plagued by the injuries. Gerrard made an unsuccessful comeback from his knee surgery, which he underwent in March. The English midfielder started two Premier League and gave three substitute appearances
before suffering ankle infection.

The 31-year-old was expected to be back against Chelsea last weekend, however the English midfielder could not make it and now he has been declared unfit for the clash against Manchester City.

Dalglish has admitted that he cannot set a specific date for Gerrard’s return, while admitting that he is satisfied with the midfielder’s progress.

While talking about his captain’s injury, Dalglish told the reporters, “Like we’ve already said, we are delighted with the progress he’s making and we’ve said that we won’t put a date on his return – and we won’t put a date on it now. We are very happy with
his progress.”

The Liverpool manager has also praised Glen Johnson for his magnificent strike in the dying minutes against Chelsea to secure all three points for the Reds.

With few seconds remaining in the match, Glen Johnson made a surging run and after going past English two veteran defenders, John Terry and Ashley Cole, the Reds right-back placed the ball in the far corner to win all three points for Liverpool.

Johnson, who recently returned from lengthy lay-off due to knee injury, was starting his first match since making the comeback. Dalglish has hailed right back’s impressive comeback and was impressed by Englishman’s contribution since the start of the season.

“Well he’s fit. He’s playing really well. We are delighted with the way he’s been playing. At the moment for us he’s in the right-back position and that’s the only team we want to pick. No-one else tries to pick our team, so why should we pick theirs?” Kenny
Dalglish concluded.
Liverpool are currently placed sixth in the league standings with 22 points to their name from 12 matches.
