Shakib Al Hasan was ideal to lead Bangladesh – Jamie Siddons – Cricket News Update

Jamie Siddons, the former Bangladesh Coach has hailed Shakib Al Hasan who was sacked from captaincy recently after the tour of Zimbabwe. Siddons said that Shakib has the ideal credentials to remain as Bangladesh Skipper; however, he could
not have sufficient support to sustain his position.

“He [Shakib] is the only person to lead the side,” Siddons, who now coaches Wellington in New Zealand, told Bangladesh newspaper, the
Independent. “A captain must be consulted on everything regarding the team and must be listened to when he speaks or raises an issue. This does not happen with Shakib or any other captain at present. He is a great thinker, and is also the team’s best
and most-respected player, perfect credentials for a captain.”

The selectors still did not choose a Captain for the national team and triggered the rumours about who could be ready to take the responsibility of the Captain of Bangladesh. A name that is under consideration is Mushfiqur Rahim who has
played 98 ODI matches and remained regularly in national XI. Moreover, Siddons said that players are not interested in the position.

However, none of the Bangladesh player is ready to become the captain instead of Mohammad Ashraful who is eager to take the responsibility of Captaincy.

Siddons also said that he did not understand the need to have a selector in the dressing room during the games. Stuart Law, the Siddons successor reportedly unhappy on the presence of Habibul Bashar and tour observer Shafiqur Rahman Munna’s
presence in the dressing room.

Bangladesh was coached by Siddons in October 2007 and April 2010, and then left for wellington job after he could not renew his contract with Bangladesh following poor performance in the recent World Cup in the sub-continent and against
Australia at home. Shakib has worked with Siddons for two years when he was captain except a brief span of time when Mashrafe Mortaza was made Skipper.

The Skipper Shakib and the Vice-Captain Tamim Iqbal were sacked from their positions earlier this week after an embarrassing performance in Zimbabwe, there were also allegations of being rude with the management on them.
