Richard Pybus praises Pakistan captain Misbah ul Haq

Former Pakistan coach, Richard Pybus is all praise for the current Pakistan captain, Misbah ul Haq and said that the skipper is having a very positive influence on the Green Shirts.

Misbah was appointed Pakistan’s Test captain after the controversial tour of England and since then, Pakistan has done exceedingly well in the Test match cricket. After Shahid Afridi’s differences with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the veteran batsman
was made the captain of limited overs cricket as well and he led Pakistan to series whitewashes against Ireland and Zimbabwe.

On top of that, the biggest influence of Misbah as captain has been the fact that there is no infighting within the team and there seems to be a harmony in the players, which is very unique in Pakistan cricket.

Pybus, who had two tenures with Pakistan cricket team as coach, feels that the biggest plus of Misbah is that he is not emotional like many other Pakistani cricketers and he gives a proper thought before making decisions.

He said, “With Misbah ul-Haq as captain, he’s a really solid guy, he’s a very calm captain. some of the Pakistani lads can be emotional and get worked up about stuff and its good having somebody who is logical and thoughtful and doesn’t respond to every
little thing going on around him.”

The 37-year-old Misbah could not find a permanent place in the national team at the peak of his career because there were some extra-ordinary middle order batsmen in the Pakistan team like Inzamam ul Haq, Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan. However, he found
a new life in his cricketing career since the ICC World Twenty20 2007 in South Africa.

Pybus feels that the need of the hour for Pakistan cricket is to make policies while keeping in mind the future. He also hopes that Pakistan cricket can find a good coach after the resignation of Waqar Younis, who can take the team forward alongside Misbah.

“The ability to take a long-term view on things I have always felt is a positive thing for Pakistan cricket. So I’m hoping in the long-term Misbah can find himself a coach who will keep taking the side forward,” Pybus added.
