Real Madrid’s Sergio Canales on the move to a top flight team in Europe – La Liga Special

When Sergio Canales joined Real Madrid from Racing Santander he would not have envisioned a La Liga campaign like this. With only fifteen competitive appearances to his name, Canales was consigned to the bench for the better part of the year. He needs first
team opportunities if he has to realize his true potential and should be looking to move. Clubs across Europe want to sign the prodigious Spanish talent, and he can have his pick.

Interest in the young attacking midfielder is high as clubs from Bundesliga, English Premier League, Serie A and La Liga seek his signature. Canals made his mark playing for a depleted Racing Santander, which lost first team regulars in winter 2009. He showed
real promise as he gained more first team minutes, scoring 7 goals and assisting his teammates on 6 occasions in 2009-10 La Liga campaign.

Real Madrid came calling for his signature in summer of 2010 along with other high profile clubs from England and Italy. The Spanish side was successful in its advances as they grasped him from the clutches of their European opponents. In his debut year
he has failed to make a mark on the first team as Mesut Ozil cemented his place as first choice attacking midfielder in the absence of Kaka. To continue his development as a professional footballer he should move away from Santiago Bernabeu. A loan move is
touted as the Copa del Rey winners are unwilling to let go of the skilful playmaker.

Under new management, Roma are strengthening their squad for an assault on Serie A. Jose Enrique has been brought in as new manager and a host of Spanish players have been linked with the Italian club. Former Barcelona B boss, Enrique would like Canales
to join him in the Italian capital on his new journey.

Like Roma, Bundesliga side Schalke have been speculated to be running for Canales. He will join Real Madrid legend, Raul Gonzalez at the club as he sets out on new adventures. The German league is full of fresh blood gaining valuable first team experience
and the 20-year-old will fit in perfectly. Mesut Ozil and Nuri Sahin fired up Bundesliga stadia before their moves to Los Vikingos and Canales would like to follow suit to complete his football training.

It is in England where demand for the young playmaker is highest. Everton FC manager, David Moyes has been following the youngster for quite some time now and he would like to bring him on a yearlong loan. The Toffees boss is known for grooming young talent,
English forward Wayne Rooney the prime example.

Aston Villa are also in pursuit of Canales. New manager, Alex McLeish is known for trusting fresh faces over tired combatants and the Spaniard fits the bill. The club has sold their two attacking protagonists, Ashley Young and Stewart downing and need urgent
replacements. The Copa del Rey winner would fit in the squad full of enterprising youngsters such as Marc Albrighton and Nathan Delfouneso.

Sergio Canales productivity has decreased in the last year as he managed only a single assist in his all league outings. This is a considerable decline from his past performances. Alarm bells must be ringing in his head as he came to Santiago Bernabéu to
become one of the best in his trade and not a marginalised player. A loan deal will be helpful in boosting his confidence but if he has to realise his true potential, he should look for stability in his career and not jumping from one club to another every
season.
