Manchester United looking to make move for Standard Liege midfielder Axel Witsel

It is being reported that Manchester United are looking to try and lure Standard Liege’s young holding midfielder, Axel Witsel to Old Trafford at the end of the season. The team has started to show strong sings of interest in the player following the Belgian
internationals claims that he wanted to switch teams at the end of the season.

Witsel is best known for breaking an opponent’s ankle once in a horror tackle (who happens to be Anderlecht player, Marcin Wasilewski), for which he was given an eight match ban. However over the five years that he has spent at Liege, he has easily been
one of the best players in the team, despite his explosive and volatile nature.

The twenty two year old has started a potential bidding war over his capture, after making it clear that he was going to be leaving Liege irrelevant of what happens in the future. One of the main reasons for the player wanting to leave the team is because
he is looking to play at the highest level possible, which in turn would help him grow as a player.

At the same time United are looking to make a move for a holding midfielder, who can come into the side and carry for the coming five seasons at least. This is because Owen Hargreaves seems to be in condition to ever recover, as he went on to suffer another
setback in training with the England squad when he suffered a shoulder injury and is now set to be out of action for another week or so.

Apart from Hargreaves United don’t really have a dedicated holder, who can break play town and use his presence to muscle opponents off the ball. However it seems like the team has realized that Witsel could be just the player to d so.

The Belgian international despite his young age, is probably one of the most underrated talents in the world. He has already gone on to win the Belgian young footballer of the year award in the 2007-2008 season and also acquired the Belgian Golden Shoe(Which
is awarded to the best player in the Belgian first division) in 2008.

All in all it seems like Witsel has all the characteristics to become an instant success at Old Trafford. It is now going to be a wait till the end of the season to see if United end up landing the midfielder, considering a number of other teams are also
looking to pursue the player, the Red Devils are going to have to act fact before someone else captures the player from under their noses.
