Liverpool should be at their best against Manchester City, urges Lucas Leiva – EPL News

Liverpool midfielder, Lucas Leiva, has urged the Reds to give their best performances against Manchester City, just like they did against Chelsea, in order to mount a stronger challenge for the Barclays Premier League title this season.

The Merseyside club have had an impressive start to the ongoing 2011/12 campaign and are currently unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions. Kenny Dalglish’s men recently recorded 2-1 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Liverpool are now set to host the only unbeaten team and the current Premier League leaders, Manchester City and the Reds will have to emulate their form, which they showed against Chelsea, in order to secure a positive result at Anfield.

The Anfield team have a decent record against the top English club as they recorded a win against Arsenal, followed by a draw against Manchester United.

Lucas is confident that the Reds will be at their best against Manchester City in the upcoming tie and has asserted that if Liverpool treat every game like Chelsea, then they will be able to fight for the Premier League title.

The Brazilian midfielder expressed his delight over Reds’ win against the West London side and added, “If we approach every single game like we approached the Chelsea game, then we would be in a better position.”

Though, Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield in this season, the Reds have drawn last three home fixtures against Manchester United, Norwich City and Swansea City. Lucas believes that Kenny Dalglish’s men will have to step up their game at the home ground.

“Now we need to find a good way of playing at home, we have to improve our record there and if we do that then our position will definitely get better. When you’re playing against teams that aren’t maybe considered among the top clubs, then you always need
to be on the attack and score goals. We have to find the balance and the right time to do that,” Lucas Leiva concluded.

Liverpool are currently placed sixth in the Barclays Premier League table, having recorded 22 points from 12 games.
