Gael Monfils/Victoria Azarenka defeats Venus Williams/John Isner in an exhibition game – Tennis News

In an exhibition tournament, Tennis Pon de Rock, world number sixteen, Gael Monfils, teamed up with world number three, Victoria Azarenka, to take on the American duo, Venus Williams and John Isner. Monfils/Azarenka duo defeated their rivals in the opening
match of the exhibition tournament. The tournament is played in Sugar Hill Tennis Resort, Barbados.

The weather report originally disheartened the audience as it stated that heavy showers were expected at this part of the world and it seemed like that in the morning as well but slowly and gradually the dark clouds disappeared; a bright shiny afternoon
was enjoyed by the crowd with the flare of the most blistering tennis personalities presenting their skilful game play in friendly manner.

Sizeable crowd gathered to witness these exhibition encounters that didn’t disappoint anyone as they were played with utmost passion by every participant. There were many elite officials and some government bodies were there to witness the encounters and
encourage performers onboard.

Prime Minister, Freundel Stuart, and British musical idol, Sir Cliff Richard, was also present at the opening ceremony and prolonged their stay to observe some eye-startling tennis from world’s elite performers.

Monfils was excited to have made it to such an event that will provide some pre-season practice for him. Azarenka was quick to make co-ordination with her partner and overpowered the team of former world number and world number eighteen, Williams and Isner.
It took just an hour to nail the American duo in straight sets with a cumulative score of 6-4, 6-3.

Frenchman didn’t find it difficult to settle himself on a very slippery surface and aced his double handed backhands effortlessly to overshadow his rivals. He complemented the world number three in such a magnificent manner that it seemed like these two
have been playing together for over a decade.

Winning every allocated breakpoint opportunity and their conversion ratio of serves to success was the main factor that helped them to an easy victory. Venus made a winning comeback to courts against her sister in Colombia looked to have not regained her
form and her co-ordination with her compatriot was completely missing.

On a couple of occasions, American duo didn’t react to the returns from their rivals and ball sailed past them, helping their counterparts to continue their domination. Such events provide players an opportunity to excite the audience with their innovative
shot making ability that can’t be seen during professional tournament due to intense pressure and cautious game play.
