Facundo Pieres looking more glories in the Argentina Open Polo Championship
Facundo Pieres, the world’s number five and star of Ellerstina Etiqueta Negra, is looking more glories for his team in the Argentina Open Polo Champion, underway at the Campo Argentino de Polo (Cathedral of Polo), in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Regardless of the victory against Alegria Crowne Plaza, the Ellerstina team members were not satisfied with the final results. Ellerstina registered 20 goals against the 17 of its rivals, winning the game by only a three-goal margin.
Speaking to the media about the first game, Facundo Pieres stated that they could have displayed a better performance what they did not doing so. He, however, said that they are not a 40-goal handicap foursome what they were used to be.
Facundo was of the opinion that it was quite a tough fixture contrary to their expectations. He also opined that all players of the foursome played individually rather as a team. They will have to work hard to play the game as a team, he added.
Commenting on the changed positions of Gonzalo Pieres and Nachi Heguy, Facundo expressed that it was not a comfortable practice. But, he stated that they won the match, and credit goes to Gonzalo who played for the first time at the number four.
He observed, “If this afternoon we would have won by a 10-goal margin, we were to play the all-important match badly, and we were to lose it, it’s the same. I know we’re going to be playing better”.
Another team member of Ellerstina, Gonzalo Pieres, also shared his feelings after winning the maiden encounter.
He commented that they did not find many chances to move the ball among each other which is why the opponents held the ball and counterattacked.
He underlined, “I was hoping for a better start, but it’s to their credit for having played a great match. We would’ve liked to have done better, but we weren’t able to detach ourselves from them, they played very well, when we were three goals up, they
would reduce the margin”.
Replying to a query regarding playing positions, he opened that they will review the things in the current week in order to formulate a strategy for the future games. In his view, he handled the back-position convincingly well.
Ellerstina will take on Indios Chapaleufu II in the next match of the Argentina Open Polo Championship, on November 27, 2011.
