Women’s Volleyball update: All Turkish teams will play in the Playoffs 12 of the 2011 CEV Champions League

The women’s teams from Turkey cropped out great results in the last round of the 2011 CEV Champions League. They exhibited their wonderful skills on the podium and received huge applause from spectators. The 2011 CEV Champions League will now enter the important
phase of Playoffs 12, where top two teams from all five pools will show up in the court. Turkey has following three teams in the Playoffs 12:

  • VakifGunesTTelekom ISTANBUL from Pool A
  • FenerbahceAcibadem ISTANBUL from Pool B
  • Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL from Pool C

VakifGunesTTelekom ISTANBUL

The wonderful team of VakifGunes TTelekom Istanbul topped the Pool A of 2011 CEV Champions League. The Turkish squad was joined by Bank BPS Fakro MUSZYNA of Poland, Zarechie ODINTSOVO of Russia, and Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD from Serbia. The Turks appeared in
six matches and dug up absolute success. They didn’t allow anyone to hinder their performance and kept their winning streak up till the end. In the last match, VakifGunes TTelekom Istanbul was challenged by Serbian Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD. It was an easy task
for the strong Turkish team to dismantle the power of Serbs. Turks totally dominated the opponents and secured a comfortable straight sets’ victory.

The match was played in the “Burhan Felek” Volleyball Hall in Istanbul, Turkey. The home team performed amazingly well and posted 25-8, 25-15, and 25-16. Serbian team proved to be an irresistible rival, which failed to create any threat for the strong competitor
VakifGunes TTelekom Istanbul.

The head coach of Turkish team, Giovanni Guidetti commented: “We only have to wait for the results of the Drawing of Lots. In the first match in Serbia, we were about to lose, but now we have improved our play pretty much. That’s why I am very satisfied.
All the players in the team improve their performance day by day, so we are not afraid of the next opponent”. The brilliant captain of competitor VakifGunes TTelekom Istanbul, Gozde Sonsirma is hopeful to carry on with the same spirit in next games. She said:
“The score is pretty good for us. We have played 4 games in the last 10 days. We did not relax from the first service to the end. We will wait for the next round”.

FenerbahceAcibadem ISTANBUL

The internationally renowned team of Fenerbahce Acibadem Instanbul returned to 2011 CEV Champions League after giving out a great performance in the 2010 Club Wold Championship in Doha, Qatar. The Fenerbahce team continued with success in the next challenge
series and became the second team from Turkey to play in the Playoffs 12 of CEV Champions League. The Turkish team was accompanied by three other teams in Pool B. Dinamo MOSCOW from Russia, Italian Norda Foppapedretti BERGAMO and Croatia’s ZOK SPLIT accompanied
Turkish team. The Fenerbahce’s team appeared in six matches and finished with an overall score of 5-1.

Fenerbahce came across their arch rivals Norda Foppapedretti BERGAMO from Italy in the last match on Tuesday, January 11. Turkish squad sparked on the scene and posted 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, and 25-19) victory over Italians.

Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL

Eczacibasi VitrA Istanbul also represented Turkey in the 2011 CEV Champions League. They were put in the Pool C along with CV Jamper Aguere LA LAGUNA of Spain, ASPTT MULHOUSE of France and Swiss Voléro ZÜRICH. The Turkish team demonstrated great game and
topped the Pool C ranking. They finished the crucial round with a loss of only one match and managed to capture the top slot. The Team Eczacibasi faced Voléro ZÜRICH of Switzerland in the last match on Tuesday. The 5-set bruising encounter ended in Eczacibasi’s
favour and they marched as winners.
