Virat Kohli falls as Daredevils stage comeback – Delhi Daredevils vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore – Overs 0 to 10 – Report

The Royal Challengers Bangalore had the upper hand as they took to the field in the second innings after restricting the Delhi Daredevils to a 160 run total in the 30th match of the Indian Premier League.

With a batting line up boasting the likes of Sri Lankan Captain Tillakaratne Dilshan, Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle the Royal Challengers Bangalore had the capability to make quick work of the chase.

Fate, it seems had other plans, as Dilshan found himself caught behind on the second delivery of the first over. Returning to the pavilion having recorded a golden done on the scorecard the Sri Lankan batsman was livid with himself.

The next man in, Virat Kohli, found himself at the crease a little earlier than the world cup winner would have liked. Yet he seemed to put any feelings aside as he punished Ashok Dinda with two exquisite boundaries off the last two deliveries of the over.

Kohli dished out similar punishment to Delhi Daredevil bowler Yusuf Pathan as he hammered the bowler for four boundaries in the next over. By this time Kohli had already amassed 25 runs off just 10 deliveries.

The humiliation suffered by Pathan was enough to convince Delhi Skipper Virender Sehwag into making a bowling change as Albie Morkel was made to bowl the fourth over.

Morkel seemed have the desired effect until Gayle decided the South African bowler needed a wake up call and smashed him for a four and a six off the last two deliveries.

Both batsmen were playing at their attacking best as the 5th over brought with it another 17 runs with the help of two fours and a Virat Kohli six!

Morkel came back with a fine over restricting the hard hitting batsmen to just three runs, but that seemed to be a blip in the batting pair’s superb performance, as the next over bore another 13 runs.

What the Virender Sehwag’s side needed was a wicket to break up the partnership and James Hopes stepped up to the plate. Gayle was tempted into a big heave which did not connect as well as the batsman would have hoped and the ball found itself in the safe
hands of Venugopal Rao.

Virat Kohli however had reason to celebrate as the batsman reached his half century with a four on the very next delivery, yet the celebrations were short lived as his team found themselves in more trouble in the next over.

AB de Villiers had his innings come to a premature end when he was run out for just five runs. The trend continued in the next over when danger-man Kohli was dismissed when Albie Morkel’s delivery received a thick inside edge and made its way on to hit the
stumps.

By the end of the first 10 overs the balance of the match had shifted from the Royal Challengers Bangalore in favor of the Delhi Daredevils, with the score at 97 runs for the loss of four wickets.
