SBV Excelsior 2-3 FC Utrecht: Erwin Koeman delighted with the win – Dutch Eredivisie news

After an erratic start to the season, FC Utrecht managed to beat SBV Excelsior 3-2 at Stadion Woudestein on Sunday, September 11. Erwin Koeman, the Utreg manager, expressed his happiness after securing all three points while playing away from their home
turf.

The outfit from Excelsior started the match impressively in front of their home crowd and scored the opening goal barely after five minutes of play. Jason Oost headed Roland Alberg’s free-kick into the back of the net to give his side an early lead.

However, the Utreg levelled the score-line through Nana Asare in the 26th minute. Rodney Sneijder headed the ball back in the box for the Ghanaian ace, who neatly volleyed the ball into the net.

After scoring the equaliser, the visitors put consistent pressure on the Kralingers and eventually took the lead 12 minutes before the break through Ismo Vostermans. The 25-year-old headed Sneijder’s cross from the left into the net easily.

The Utreg scored their third of the evening, when Asare made no mistake in hitting the back of the net from eight yards after Alexander Gerndt sent a cross into the area from the right.

The home side pulled one back 20 minutes from the full time whistle through Joost Broerse, but it was all too late as the match ended in a 3-2 win in favour of the Utreg.

After securing all three points against Excelsior, FC Utrecht are currently placed seventh in the league table. Koeman was pleased with the results and revealed that after starting the game poorly, the result was certainly encouraging.

“We started the match poorly. But then we played some good football. The win certainly gives a great feeling. However, we failed to take all of our chances, so Excelsior still seemed to be crawling their way back into the match”, Koeman was quoted as saying
to the media.

The Utreg will lock horns with Heracles Almelo at Stadion Galgenwaard on Sunday, September 18. Koeman will be hoping that his troops manage to secure maximum points in their upcoming encounter and climb up in the league standings.
