NatWest Women’s Quadrangular Series – England Women v Australia Women – Players to watch out for

Visiting women team Australian A will contend English women team in the 5th match of NatWest Women’s Quadrangular Series 2011 at Lord’s, London.

The fixture will begin at 10:45 local time on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 between the two strongest sides of the series.

Australian and English women teams have played 2 games each in the series so far and have remained unbeaten.

The 5th match of the series will be an exciting match for the fans as the two strongest teams of the NatWest Quadrangular Series will be challenging each other.

The Australian Women Squad consists of S Nitschke, MM Lanning, LJ Poulton, AJ Blackwell, JE Cameron, LC Sthalekar, JM Fields (c & wk), SJ Coyte, CR Smith, AR Maloney and EA Osborne.

Alex Blackwell, Jess Cameron, Lisa Sthalekar and Skipper Jodie Fields were the prominent batters of the 1st match against New Zealand. They had scored 41, 79, 32 and 28 runs respectively.

In the 3rd match of the series against India, none of these batters remained very successful but the top-order made a great comeback.

The top Australian scorer was Shelley Nitschke with 78 runs, followed by Meg Lanning 23, and Leah Poulton with 34 runs.

Hence Alex, Jess, Lisa, Shelley and Leah can be the dangerous women in the Australian batting line-up and must be taken care of by the English bowlers.

Australian bowling attack was also one of the supports in their victories.

Pacer Sarah Coyte and spinner Shelley Nitschke bowled consistently well in the series. Both the bowlers took 3 wickets in each of the matches.

Rest of the prominent bowlers who can cause serious threat to the opponents are Erin Osborne, Lisa Sthalekar and Clea Smith.

Now if we look at the hosting side, English team has also enjoyed two victories in their home-grounds.

English Women squad consists of CM Edwards (c), HC Knight, DN Wyatt, SC Taylor, LS Greenway, SJ Taylor (wk), A Brindle, LA Marsh, HL Colvin, KH Brunt and IT Guha.

The English skipper Charlotte Edwards and batter Lydia Greenway remained the top scorers in the 2nd match with 51 runs each. Next prominent names were Claire Taylor and Sarah Taylor with 41 and 33 runs respectively.

These women batted consistently in the 4th match of the series also and remained the top scorers; hence their consistency should be an alarming sign for the guest team. If not knocked out early in the innings, these players may take the match
away from Australians.

The English bowling line-up can also be a threat to the visitors. Katherine Brunt, Holly Colvin, Arran Brindle, and Laura Marsh bowled marvellously in the two matches their team had played, hence are bowlers to be aware of.

For the first time, these two strong teams will be contending each other in this Quadrangular series, which is something their fans are really looking forward to.  Nothing can be predicted as to which team will win, which adds further thrill and excitement
to this match on July 5, 2011.
