Kumar Sangakkara: India favourite for ICC World Cup 2011 title

The captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team Kumar Sangakkara expressed his views by saying that India will win the ICC World Cup 2011, taking place in Wankhede Stadium at Mumbai, on 2 April 2011.

He is of the view that India is the hot favourite team in the ongoing prestigious tournament. He also added that India would be the first nation to win the coveted title on their home ground, this would for sure add to the joys of the Indians after 1983
World Cup victory. All their fans and cricket lovers are looking forward to see their team win this time as well.

Sangakkara praised the Indian team and said that their team has some exceptional bowlers with the best batting line.

Sri Lankan skipper added, “I’m sure they’ll be looking at themselves as favourites too. We’re just going to come and play as well as we can.”

Sangakkara said that despite the fact India are the World Cup favourites but  the Sri Lankan team should not be treated as underdogs as the team has done well in the current tournament. He exclaimed that the entire team is looking forward to give their best
in the final taking place tomorrow in Mumbai.

This World Cup is Sri Lanka’s third World Cup final after 1996 and 2007. The Sri Lankan team won in 1996 against Australia, but unfortunately could not win the Cup in 2007 as the Aussie player; Adam Gilchrist scored a quickfire 149 in the final of the2007
tournament, which proved to be the main difference between both sides.

The wicketkeeper-batsman exclaimed, “Four years ago we were outdone by a fantastic innings by Adam Gilchrist. Hopefully we won’t allow a repeat of that but even if that does happen, we’ve got to have the mental attitude to adjust and get back into the game.”

He also said that this tournament is taking place outside the homeland, which is a bit pressurizing, however, playing on the home ground is always very exciting and enthusiastic, he further added.

Further the skipper expressed his views about the opposing team. He elaborated that India has always been very appreciative and sporty.  Both the countries share friendly relations and  the public of India has always admired good cricket.
