West Indies versus India 2nd Test- Last day- Caribbean 2nd innings – 1 – 15 overs update
India has declared their second innings at 269 for the loss of six wickets and set a target of 281 runs for West Indies to win the second Test match at Kensington Oval.
West Indies, in pursuit of 281 runs target, started their innings with their regular openers AB Barath and Lendl Simmons. Praveen Kumar started the bowling from India with Barath on strike. On the third ball Barath was a touch lucky to survive when he tried
to force the ball towards extra cover but could not control the shot and the ball took inside edge of his bat and went over the stumps towards fine leg boundary for a four.
Barath played the next three balls with utmost caution and defended well. So the Caribbean were at four for naught at the end of first over of their second innings.
Ishant Sharma came into the attack from the other end. On the third ball of Sharma’s over Simmons guided the over pitched ball past gully and the heavy outfield prevent the ball from reaching to the boundary. However, Simmons succeeded to pinch a couple
in the process.
On the last ball, Simmons played a well timed shot towards deep square leg for a boundary. Third over of their second innings was a maiden bowled by Kumar.
The fourth over was a blend of good and bad for the batting side. On the first ball, Simmons whacked a boundary to Sharma towards point then Sharma bowled three dot balls and then Simmons got an inside edge and the ball went for a boundary.
On the last ball of the over Sharma got his man and Simmons hesitant dwelling came to an end. He tried to play a front foot shot but could not reach to the pitch of the ball and the ball took the edge and flown towards Rahul Dravid who pouched an easy catch.
It was his 202nd catch. So at the end of four overs West Indies were at 18 for the loss of one wicket.
On the second ball of the seventh over the hosts lost their second wicket as Ramnaresh Sarwan was caught by Suresh Raina off the bowling of Kumar and the over was wicket maiden by Kumar. So after seven overs the Caribbean were at 27 for the loss of two wickets.
For the next eight overs Barath and Darren Bravo built a solid partnership and played sensibly by working the ball into the gaps and putting the loose ball to the boundary and blocking the lethal one with awesome technique. So they survived until the end
of 15 overs and took their team’s total to 47 for the loss of two wickets with Barath batting on 19 and Bravo batting on five.
