Wayne Rooney and Avram Grant, both, receive a two match ban from the FA for their immoral behaviour
Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has been banned for two matches by Football Association (FA) after using expletive language in the last match against West Ham. On the other hand, West Ham tactician, Avram Grant, who came under the watchful eyes of
the officials, was also ultimately penalized with a two match ban for making immoral comments about the referee, Mike Jones.
The 25-year-old United striker, Rooney, in an attempt to celebrate his hat-trick, launched offensive swear words into the camera. Manchester United made a remarkable comeback to beat West Ham United by 4-2 with a classic hat-trick from Wayne Rooney. The
Red Devils were down by 2 goals at Upton Park at the end of the first half, but three goals from Rooney helped United to gain a substantial seven points advantage as the English Premier League title contenders.
The FA officials in their announcement said “The FA has charged Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney for the use of offensive, insulting and/or abusive language. Rooney has until 6pm on April 5 to respond to the charge.”
Even though, Rooney made an apology for his improper celebration against West Ham United, he insisted that the celebration was not intended to hurt or insult anyone. According to the FA rules, players have to be careful with improper conduct including foul
play, violent conduct, abusive or wrong behaviour.
It has been a major setback for Manchester United to miss Rooney for their next two league matches against Fulham and Manchester City. Manchester United would take Fulham this weekend at Old Trafford and then they will face derby rival, Manchester City,
in a crunch game of the FA Cup Semi-final.
Rooney has not been penalized with a match ban for the first time. Similar situation occured in the last World Cup, held in South Africa, where he turned his face to the television camera and criticized the referee decision. The match against Algeria ended
in a goalless draw.
Avram Grant, the West Ham Manager, has also been under fire from the FA officials after he made an insulting comment against referee Mike Jones. He has also been charged with a fine of £6,000 by FA officials.
The controversy started last month when his team, West Ham United, had a shocking 2-1 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Stoke City. The former Chelsea manager was accused for improper conduct in front of media after this defeat. FA officials, independently,
decided to go through the case and now they have decided Grant should be penalized with a two match ban.
The ban would mean that Hammers will miss Grant’s managerial services in this weekend’s game against Bolton Wanderers. Following that, in next week’s game against Aston Villa, he will again have to contend from a spectator’s seat.
