Stephen Lee beats Ryan Day 5-2

Stephen Lee has beaten Ryan Day by a frame score of 5-2 in the last 16 of Bank of Beijing China Open 2011 held at Beijing Students University Gymnasium, Beijing, China.

The Welsh Dynamite, Ryan Day, who knocked out the rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan in the previous round, has crashed against 36-year-old Lee in the round two.

The world no.23, Lee, on the same note has produced a high standard game to see off the likes of Mark Williams and Ryan Day in the first and second round respectively. The overall score-line between the players was 50-77, 88-0, 31-81, 79-0, 9-69, 52-60 and
38-55.

In the opening frame Day was gifted with an early chance but he couldn’t clinch the frame, breaking down on 44 and was punished by Lee who responded with a couple of quick fires, 29 and 34, to have the first blood 1-0. However the things were levelled in
the second frame when Day, giving his opponent no chance, fired up a classy break of 88.

Lee restored his lead in the third with dominant breaks of 47 and 34 before another carving break of 79 came from Day in the fourth.

It was looking as if it is going to be a fully extended battle, as the players were going neck-to-neck with the frame scores 2-2 but there was a shock on the cards when Lee bounced back into the game and won all three frames in a row to secure a place in
the next round.

Lee instead of going for big breaks used his tactical skills to clinch the last three frames. He forced Day to give 8 odd-points in the fifth and with it, a chance to claim the frame on which he rolled in a decisive break of 31 to wrap it up.

Day had a frame winning chance in the sixth but he once again lost his nerves, breaking down on 51. When the chance presented itself, Lee slotted superb breaks of 32 and 20 to leave him down by four frames with five to play and he also took the cagey seventh
in a similar manner to register a 5-2 win over his opponent.
