Stefan Marsh is loaned out by Wigan Warriors to Super League club Widnes Vikings

Wigan Warriors confirmed on November 30 that they have loaned out centre Stefan Marsh to Super League comeback franchise, Widnes Vikings, for the 2012 season.

Widnes coach Denis Betts, is very delighted that his club has harnessed the services of an extraordinary talent. While speaking about Marsh, Betts said, “Stefan is an outstanding prospect. He has good vision, an outstanding turn of pace and he can certainly
handle himself in the defensive department. On behalf of the Vikings, I’d personally like to thank the chairman of Wigan Warriors, Ian Lenagan, plus their head coach Shaun Wane and rugby general manager Kris Radlinski, for making this deal possible.”

In 2011 Marsh made seven Super League appearances after Martin Gleeson left. However, this could not keep his position for too long as Joel Tomkins was moved to centre position. According to news in speculation, Wigans will soon have New Zealand’s Anthony
Gelling on board too.

Marsh is straight out of the Wigan youth system, who made his senior debut in 2010 Magic Weekend at Murrayfield Stadium in a 28-10 win over Huddersfield Giants. Despite all that the young centre played the under-20s for Warriors last year and led them to
the Valvoline Cup.

This is worrisome for the player who has so far player a total of five games at the club scoring one try and made a total of four points with Warriors. The 21-year-old Marsh, also spent a short term with Vikings last year. He will join his team-mates Ben
Cross and Ben Davies again after his new deal at the club.

Meanwhile, at Vikings the player played a total of 3 games and had scored twelve points alongside three tries.

Warriors head coach Shaun Wane wants Marsh to be regular at Super League level so that he betters his game skills further. While sharing his views about it Wane said, “This is a good opportunity for Stefan to gain some valuable First Team experience in the
best competition.”

He believes that Marsh is going to benefit a lot more from playing regularly in Super League rather than from switching between first team rugby and the Under 20’s. He further added that loan period will be beneficial for both franchises, Wigan and the Widnes
Vikings alike, because this way the player will continue playing for the first grade game.
