Romanian girls dominated with eight gold medals at the European Youth Championships

Romanian girls have dominated the European Youth Championships as they won eight gold medals in single and double events. Bernadette Szocs ignited the competition as she won the gold medal in single and double events with Petrissa Solja of Germany as coach
Marian Filipas said:

“We kept our tradition in girl’s categories. I was little bit worried at the beginning because Bernadette was injured. She started to work only ten days before the Championships. This way very difficult competition for her”

Bernadette Szocs won a Silver medal in team event along with Irina Ciobanu, Roxandra Istrate and Diana Dragnea and won a bronze medal and couldn’t perform in the teams events as good as Marian agreed that her team was unsuccessful to defend the title. She
said that their team this year was not as strong as the previous year as their boy’s ended up at 11th spot.

Marian said that team is high on spirits and will come back next year even stronger; efforts by Andreea Clapa and Diana Lupu were appreciated by their coach.

Irina Ciobanu was also having problems with her shoulder as she was holding her shoulder after the doubles event but didn’t showed any sign of the injury in the arena. Despite the injury Ciobanu managed to win the gold medal with Lucian Munteanu and silver
with Lupulesku of Serbia.

The most dominating performance was y Bernadette Szocs as she was overjoyed after the tournament. She fought till the end and she fought well and it was her winning attitude that brought her at the top as she said

“I never give up. I was not 100 percent ready, and I was little bit worry because of the injury that prevented me from having good preparation” but she said that she was sure she will win and she did.

Romania has always been coming up with sparkling youngsters and it was same this year as they dominated the tournament and won eight gold medals. Romania will be hosting the next European Top 10 and it will be the first time since 1985 as tournament is scheduled
to be played in Bazau.
