LADY JANE SET TO FOLLOW UP AT NEWCASTLE:

Lady Jane Digby bounced right back to form at Warwick last time, when staying on really well to beat Cassique Lady in a decent Listed event at Warwick. She looks set to follow up by taking Newcastle’s Hoppings Stakes at 4.30pm. Trained by Mark Johnston, she had a very good campaign last year, winning on four occasions including a Group Three race in Germany. It is also worth noting that she won this race last year, demolishing the opposition by five lengths. She appears to have everything in her favour here and will prove very hard to beat.

Dazzling Light could well prove a big danger however. Although slightly disappointing when only sixth to Just Lille at Hamilton, her previous effort when beating La Vecchia Scuola by a neck at Chester, was a very good effort. This represents a step up in class here but she is fully entitled to take her chance and worthy of consideration.

Honimiere would probably be considered a good thing in this, if she were able to reproduce her effort when beaten only a head by the top class Strawberrydaiquiri, in a Group Three at Newmarket. Her two subsequent performances though have been way below that level, and has a lot to do to turn around form with Lady Jane Digby, on her last run at Warwick. She finished well behind her rival on that occasion and there does not appear to be any obvious reason why she should reverse that form. Probably has place prospects at best.

Island Sunset won her first four career starts, but her limitations have probably been exposed in her last two outings. On her penultimate outing she was stepped up in class to contest a listed event at Kempton. She was far from disgraced, finishing sixth to Shamwari Lodge, and again ran with credit last time, when fourth to King’s Destiny in a decent handicap at Lingfield. This does look a tough assignment for her though, and she is yet to convince she is up to this level.

Pachattack probably rates as the main danger to Lady Jane Digby, and ran an excellent race last time out, when finishing third to Antara in the Group ThreePrincess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom. She has run many other creditable efforts without quite managing to get her head in front. In fact it has to be a concern that she has not won since scoring in a Goodwood maiden back in 2008. However, such is her consistency that she cannot be ruled out here.

Supaverdi is making her seasonal reappearance here. Trained by Hughie Morrison, she certainly looked a progressive mare at the end of last season, winning her final two starts. Having made all the running to comfortably beat Punch Drunk in an average looking handicap at Haydock, She upped her game next time out in a better handicap at Nottingham. Again making all the running, she stayed on in great style to beat Mejala by just over four lengths. If she is fully fit after her absence, she could well be a danger to all and worth considering.

Cracking Lass is a three-year-old filly who has been very highly tried on her last five outings. She made her seasonal reappearance in the Tattersalls Trophy at Newmarket, where she ran very well to finish fifth to Coordinated Cut. She has looked out of her depth on her last two starts though, finishing sixth to Aviate in the Musidora Stakes at York, then finishing last of nine in a Group Three event in France. This is easier, but has not done quite enough to suggest she can win this.

Sajjhaa is very lightly raced having had just the two starts. She looked like a world beater on her debut, when hacking up in a maiden at Sandown. Was strongly fancied by many for the Epsom Oaks but was very disappointing in finishing last. Very unexposed, she would have a very good chance if putting that run behind her, and could go very well.
