India versus Netherlands: Live match update – ICC World Cup 2011
Netherlands started their innings in a sedate manner, as they piled up 70 for 2 in their 20 overs in the ongoing ICC World Cup match against India at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.
Netherlands, who decided to bat first on a flat pitch, played with a resolute approach. The opening batsmen, Wesley Barresi and Eric Szwarczynski, put up a resilient 56-run partnership. In doing so, they laid a solid platform for the middle order batsmen
to build their innings.
Barresi, who is an aggressive player, played himself in with a couple of defensive shots and despatched the odd bad delivery to the fence. His 26 runs came off 58 deliveries, and when he was looking good, Yuvraj Singh got rid of him with a straight delivery.
The ball hit Barresi on the pads in line with the stumps and it was a straight forward decision for the Umpire.
Szwarczynski was more positive of the two openers, scoring 28 off 42 balls. His aggressive intent earned him four crisp boundaries and when he was looking well settled for a massive score, Piyush Chawla cleaned him up with an accurate flipper.
Tom Cooper and Ryan Doeschate are present at the crease and they have added 6 runs. Cooper has looked decent for his 10 runs, while Doeschate has just joined him and currently batting on 1 run. The current affair between two of Holland’s best players will
be important for their team, as their presence will help the Dutch to pile up a competitive total.
The new-ball bowlers for India haven’t been able to pick up wickets, but they have been able to keep things quite. Their persistent line and length have made the opposition batsmen to work hard for their runs.
Piyush Chawala has mixed up his flipper and leg-breaks to good-effect and has troubled the opposition willowers with his turn and drift. The leg-spin bowler provided the home side with their first breakthrough, picking up 1 for 18 in five overs.
Indian bowlers have strangled the Dutch willowers and have made life difficult for them. It is just a matter of getting lucky and picking up wickets on a consistent basis.
