I‘ll try not to leave the task unfinished again, promises Rohit Sharma – Cricket News Update
The architect of India’s win in the nail-biting first one-dayer against West Indies, Rohit Sharma, has expressed serious disappointment over his failure to bat till the end.
His decisive 72-run-knock helped India chase down West Indies’ target of 212, but it was a massive blow for the home side to lose him at a critical juncture in the match.
In the 46th over when his side was just 10 runs short of West Indies’ score, he gave away his wicket, leaving his side in the massive difficulty.
The Men in Blue managed to win the game at the end of the day, but Rohit is regretful of his act, and said that he will try not to repeat such mistake in the future.
“I was a little disappointed for not finishing the game. Winning the game is more important than scoring in a losing cause. I never want to do stuff like this again. Leaving 10 runs for the bowlers to finish the game is always difficult. I will make sure
it does not happen again,” Rohit said on the eve of the second game, set to be played at Visakhapatnam on Friday, December 2, 2011.
After recovering from a broken-finger injury, the Maharashtra-born made a fine comeback and entertained his fans with a wonderful half-century. Alongside Ravindra Jadeja, he consolidated the innings when the World Champs were in deep trouble after losing
five wickets for just 59 runs.
Despite lamenting over his inability to finish the task, the young man seemed satisfied with his fifty in a winning cause. When asked about his batting strategy in the pressure situation, the 24-year-old shared that he went out to bat with a single aim of
building partnership.
“It was a close game no doubt. But it does not matter as we have won the game that is more important. It was not an easy situation to be in. We wanted a partnership and when Jadeja came in, we just spoke about building small partnerships,” added the right-hander
whose prime objective will be to become a long-term member of MS Dhoni’s ODI setup.
