Golf Latest: Bamber says Chemung Hills Golf Club & Banquet Center now belongs to Oceola Township
The hammer has been dropped and the ownership has been transferred. Oceola Township is the legal owner of Chemung Hills Golf Club & Banquet Center.
In a press conference held in Livingston County, Michigan, Bill Bamber addressed the media and discussed the fears unveiled with the transfer.
The club, which opened in 1923, was given by the court under the supervision of Osprey Recreational Properties, when its owner failed to pay the mortgage. The club remained open for the game in all this time, but in 2005, the owner
sought a stay order from the court. According to the law, the owner is liable for all the rights, if he possesses the stay order, which includes sale and purchase. After getting the stay order, the former owner decided to demolish the golf club and construct
a 700-space RV park on the property, which would include 107 cabins, a water park, and softball diamonds.
However, the proposal was not accepted by the members of the club and an uprising started against the owner. Oceola Township stepped into the scene, as super hero and purchased the club. On 27th December, Oceola Township
became the lawful owner of club after complete documentation.
Bamber told the press that $ 750,000 was spent on the purchase, which included the entire facility, maintenance equipment, supplies, and liquor license. He further added that Township was thinking of leasing the facility to a firm
for operations. However, he emphasised that Township did not wanted to deal with house development firms or RV Park contractors, as their agenda was to keep golf alive in Michigan.
He further added, “we will sign a lease agreement before the mid of next month, as a lot is in pipe line for the start of next year. But, Township will take royalty from company’s interim profits as per the rules of contract.”
The Chemung Hills Golf Club & Banquet Center will be reopened for the public, in the coming week. Once again, a golf course has been saved by Oceola Township to keep golf alive in Livingston County, Michigan. Now that is a true
golf lover!
