Former Bayern Munich player Thomas Strunz recalls his troubled past
Having previously commented on Bayern Munich’s progress this season and Germany’s successful Euro qualifying campaign, Thomas Strunz, now has recalled some bitter memories from his troubled past. He thought that the incidents helped him in becoming more
competent and strong and now doesn’t even bother about thinking of them.
The player was part of Bayern Munich setup during the mid 90’s when he became the centre of criticism by the former Bavarian manager, Giovanni Trapattoni. The former tactician was being harsh on the midfielder in front of media personnel, who found life
difficult at Allianz-Arena ever since.
There was another point in the midfielder’s life when his wife was found cheating on him. Later, it was revealed that she had an affair with one of Strunz’s own teammates, Stefan Effenberg.
Strunz told that he got to learn a lot from those troubled moments and feels proud to have faced everything like a man. The former player believed that had those moments not entered his life, he might not have been that influential a player as he used to
be.
The midfielder further told that the tactician’s post-match press conference was an embarrassing moment especially after getting insulted in the presence of unknown faces.
While talking to Goal.com regarding both incidents, the 43-year-old further stated, “Of course it was hard. Two or three months later, it was still hard to work with Trapattoni. But I must say that this was an important part in my personal development.”
He also enthused, “At the time I had many things on my mind and I even questioned myself. I now believe that things do not arise randomly, everything happens for a reason. Therefore, this personal side of my life was a very important phase, just as with
Trapattoni.”
Thomas reserved encouraging words for the current Munich side and wished them a successful 2011/12 campaign before ending his conversation.
Strunz represented Germany on 41 occasions during his nine-year international career, bagging a goal in return. The player served the Bavarian giants in two separate spells, collecting a total of 23 league goals from 156 Bundesliga appearances.
