Manchester United’s players were first to come out on to the field, Spurs were not far behind them, and there were no half-time substitutions. Rafael was bombarding forward as Spurs defence remained static. Moments later, referee
Mike Dean ridiculously waved play on when Luka Modric had been brought down by Carrick.

Ryan Giggs whipped in a corner from the Man United right and Michael Carrick rose ahead of everyone at the near post, he flicked it on just past the far post, with Luka Modric threw himself at the ball in case it was going in.
Carrick looked more dangerous with his head than with his feet today – he has given the ball away a lot as he returned to his former employers.

It was all Manchester United at the start of the second half and Wayne Rooney found some space outside the Spurs box, Rafael van der Vaart slapped a left-foot free-kick into the Manchester United wall.

Patrice Evra was booked for a foul on Aaron Lennon after the Spurs winger ran at him just outside the Man United box. The free-kick, yawn, was curled into the arms of Edwin van der Sar by his fellow Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart.
He was very much involved in the game.

Manchester United went to five in midfield with Rooney on the right. Sir Alex Ferguson was not happy that Spurs have come into this and he will take a draw as a good result.

Rafael looked like a sending off waiting to happen, and he was off. He was unlucky though – he tracked back trying to catch Ekotto but caught him in his run, bringing the full-back crashing down and earned a second yellow card.

Spurs ball into the United box ended with a Peter Crouch shot flying over the visitor’s crossbar. Wayne Rooney was also booked in Rafael sending off for a rant at referee.

Aggressive changes from both managers for the last 12 minutes as Harry Redknapp brought on Jermain Defoe for Wilson Palacios. Man United responded as the lethal Javier Hernandez came on for ineffective Dimitar Berbatov.

Paul Scholes was getting ready to come on for Manchester United but after Rafael’s red card, Javier Hernandez was brought on to replace ineffective Dimitar Berbatov. It was positive thinking as ever from Sir Alex Ferguson. And
why, by the way, did Wayne Rooney felt the need to rant at referee Mike Dean after the red card?

Jermain Defoe dragged a left-foot shot wide from about 22 yards and Gareth Bale was not a happy man – he has got Darren Fletcher playing at right-back against him and he wants a run at the makeshift defender.

Vidic gave a cheap free-kick away, as the free-kick was whipped in, Michael Dawson could not get the flick on and United cleared their lines. The United defence was sixes and sevens as William Gallas flick on from the corner caused
havoc in United’s six yard box, Van der Sar eventually punched the loose ball away to clear the danger.

Javier Hernandez brilliantly tracked back going toe-to-toe with Aaron Lennon as the winger burst into the United box. As Spurs win a corner, but the visitors have defended magnificently and got it clear once more.

Another ball pumped into the United box was headed over by William Gallas, but again there was some serious pressure being exerted by the wonderful Nemanja Vidic.

Manchester United returned to the summit of the Premier League and they remain unbeaten this campaign. Sir Alex Ferguson has marked first of March as a possible D-day, when they travel to the home of Champions.

Final Score: Tottenham Hotspur 0 Manchester United 0
