Dirk Schimmelpfennig impressed by Germany’s youth performance at European Youth Championships
Germany’s performance at Kazan reflects the hard work and the team effort that has been put into the team by the players and management. Germany has won 9 medals at European Youth Championships but sports director Dirk Schimmelpfennig said that winning the
medals is not the important thing at the European Youth Championships. What really matters at this level is to give the opportunity to deserving players, helping them with their temperament and improve their game as he said:
“It is nice, but it is not matters how much medals you have won. We are at the European Youth Championships and all what matter is how to give our youth possibility to improve their game”
Dang along with David Reitspies of Czech Republic won the first position in doubles for cadet boys. Qiu Dang, Killian Ort and Maikel Sauer won the gold medal in team events whereas, Chantal Mantz, Wan Yuan, Nina Mittelham and Alena Lemmer, won silver. Nina
Mittelham won gold along with Nicole Trosman for Cadet Doubles Event.
In junior singles Solja won Silver medal with a gold medal with Bernadette in doubles. Nina Mittelham won the gold medal in cadet singles while Chantal Mantz took the second position.
He further added that at this level we should not have high expectations from the players as he considered it as a stage where it is more important for the young players to learn from their mistakes and improve their game for the bigger events.
“We will leave our expectations for the future. Now it is important for them to learn”
Dirk Schimmelpfennig mentioned Petrissa Solja, Nina Mittelham and Petrissa Solja and was delightful with their performances as he said that Petrissa was close to win the gold medal in singles but lost in a very close and a fighting match against Bernadette
Szocs. Director of DTTB sports said that these young players are upcoming stars and it is our duty to polish their skills and guide them through. He said that the tournament at Kazan was exceptional as youngsters from Russia have also impressed many with their
performances.
Romania’s youth has also been exceptional in the European Youth Championships as they dominated the girl’s events by winning eight medals with Bernadette Szocs being the star of the competition.
