Borussia Dortmund waive away speculation linking them to Sporting target Nicklas Bendtner – Report

Borussia Dortmund have cooled rumours linking them to Arsenal’s unwanted striker Nicklas Bendtner, who is also reportedly being monitored by Sporting Lisbon.

The German giants were allegedly keeping tabs on Bendtner but the club have now ruled out a move for the attacker who is surplus to Arsene Wenger’s plans for next season.

“We have never been interested.”

“We’re currently at our training camp in Switzerland and have been asked about this by German, Swiss and many other reporters.

“But believe me, there’s nothing in this at all,” said Press officer Josef Schneck.

The comments made by The Borussians are contrary to those made by Bendtner’s father, who also the agent of his son.

There is an interest from several German clubs.

“I can confirm that Borussia Dortmund wish to buy,” the Arsenal forward’s father was quoted as saying.

The 23-year-old has been largely mooted as a failure at the Emirates and already made his desire of parting ways with the club known to the public. Although he become a fringe player for the Gunners, his 58 goals in 204 appearances shows that he has retained
at least some of goal-poaching abilities.

Arsenal have also made their intention of selling the player clear as he was unceremoniously left out of the preseason squad. With the prospect of signing a relatively young winger, who has not only played in the UEFA Champions League but also experienced
International football, many clubs have lodged their interest for the Olsen Gang star.

Sporting Lisbon are the ones who are most keen on purchasing the services of the player and with the neglected status he has at the London outfit, Sporting could also acquire him on the cheap. A bid of €12 million could easily see the Lions land their man
but they will face competition from Hamburg, who are also contemplating proposals for the Denmark International.

At Hamburg, Bendtner would not only enjoy playing time but would also be highly regarded by the club officials, who are quite eager to see him play for their side.

“Nicklas Bendtner is a very interesting player. His signing would be a real dream,” said an official.

The Rothosen have also added that besides playing in his regular position up front, Bendtner would also be utilized in multiple roles at the helm but have cited their inability to match the spending power rivals as the reason that the move might not go through.

However with Sporting also adding several signings like Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Oguchi Onyewu to their squad, they could have exhausted their funds for the summer, leaving Hamburg to step up their interest for the former Birmingham City man.
