Gianluigi Buffon Masocco is probably one of the best goalkeepers around the globe. This Italy international has also represented an Italian club Parma in the Serie A division and is a current Juventus player. Buffon has also represented Juventus at the Serie B division for one season. He is regarded amongst one of the 125 greatest living footballers. Buffon’s achievements certainly prove that he is a goalkeeper of some high quality. His major achievement is winning the Serie A goalkeeper of the year award for a record 8 times.

Buffon started his journey while playing for Parma. He started by playing in the club’s youth system and due to his great reflexes, soon made his way into the senior side. He made his debut for the club while he was just 19 years old. During his stay at the club, the Italian made 43 first team appearances. He enjoyed success at the club after winning the UEFA Cup in 1998-99 season and winning the Coppa Italia in 1999. During the same season, He also won the Seria A goalkeeper of the year award.

The Italian already impressed a lot of other clubs in the Serie A division and eventually, Juventus had to offer a record transfer fee for any goalkeeper, 32.6 million pounds. It was a whopping offer considering the fact that even though he has great reflexes but he is only a goalkeeper who can’t score or create goals. Buffon was sold to Juventus on 2001.

During his first season with the club, Buffon was immediately trusted with the first team responsibility. He proved his worth by helping the club, win the Serie A title in that season, which was Buffon’s very first at the club. During the same season, the goal keeper also won the Serie A goal keeper of the year award for the 2nd time.

Buffon, never looked back from this point onwards and kept on climbing step by step. During the 2002-03 season, this wall, managed to represent Juventus at the UEFA Champion’s league final. Unfortunately, his club lost on penalties to A.C Milan. But to his credit, Juventus won the second consecutive Serie A title that season. He was again honored with the Serie A goalkeeper of the year award for the third time.

 In the following year, this agile figure managed to grab two more honours under his belt. He got UEFA Champion’s league most valuable player award and got the best goalkeeper category award in the UEFA Club football awards. In the same season, the Italian grabbed another Serie A goalkeeper of the year award for amazing fourth time.

In the 2004-05 season, the goalkeeper made a total of 48 appearances in all competitions and for the 3rd time in 4 years at the club, he won the title. During the same season, he was again picked as the league’s best goalkeeper for the 5th time.

Buffon opted to make a move in Serie B division in 2006-07 while staying with Juventus. He wanted to win in that division too and that is why he went for it. To the delight of the goalkeeper and with some good fortunes, he managed to win the Serie B title immediately. Again though, He came back to the Serie A. Buffon got his 6th Serie A goalkeeper of the year award in 2005 and his 7th in 2006. During the 2006-07 season, Buffon was also presented with the European footballer of the year award.

In the same 2006-07 season, the Italian got picked for Italy’s world cup squad and was by far the most incredible goalkeeper during the campaign. He managed to keep 5 clean sheets out of a total of 6 in his entire career. Buffon was the part of the Italy’s world cup winning squad in 2006.

After he made his way back in the Serie A division, Buffon signed a contract extension with the club till 2012. In 2008, He again won the Serie A best goalkeeper award for the record 8th time. While playing for Juventus till date, this record breaking goalkeeper has made 337 appearances. Buffon has also represented Italy on a 102 occasions.

By far, He is the most dominant and best goalkeeper of all times. Even at the age of 33, He is still the first choice goalkeeper for his club.
