"There is still a long way to go in this league” insists Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola – La Liga News

Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has expressed that there is still a long way to go in the season and that his team can still bounce back to claim the La Liga title. Barcelona were defeated away at Getafe on Saturday, as Real Madrid emerged victorious against city rivals Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona visited Getafe this past Saturday and had to face defeat as the home side completely blocked out the current Spanish champions. Barcelona lost the match 1-0, after Victor Valdes was unable to keep out Juan Varela’s header in the second half. It was Getafe’s only shot on target which resulted in the only and decisive goal of the match.

On the other side Real Madrid eased their way to victory in the Madrid derby. They defeated Atletico Madrid 4-1 at Santiago Bernabeu, maintaining their tremendous run this season.

Barcelona’s defeat along with Madrid’s win means that Jose Mourinho’s men now go six points clear at the top of the table. However, Guardiola is adamant that it is still too early in the season to be jumping to conclusions.

According to Xinhua, the Spanish mentor was quoted as saying:

"There is still a long way to go in this league and we have to recover from the effort we have made. We worked very hard and well, but now we have to think about playing Rayo Vallecano and Levante before Real Madrid.”

The Catalan coach also discussed the defeat against Getafe. He expressed that the defeat certainly resulted in a lot of frustration and disappointment for the Spanish giants. However he was very confident that the title race is yet to evolve and that anything could take place.

"We created a lot of chances against a side that played six defenders and just one striker. We couldn`t open up the game and they scored from a corner. We tried right until the end and I have nothing to criticise my players for.”

Getafe are a well trained side and they didn`t give anything away, but there is a long way to go yet and I don`t think that the league has escaped us yet. In the history of Barcelona, we have come from behind to beat Madrid on many occasions”

Barcelona will face Real Madrid on the 10th December in this season’s first El Clasico. Football fans all over the world are eager to find out whether Los Blancos can finally bring an end to Barca’s dominance over Spain.
