Zack Greinke’s return to playing form will be likely delayed beyond the 16th of April

Trouble seems to e brewing in the Milwaukee Brewers camp as Zack Greinke’s return date has been perceived to be beyond the 16th of April date suggested by the club officials, a few days ago. A serious rib cage injury has the former Kansas City Royals’ pitcher reeling on the mound and as his spring display suggests, he’s likely to e of no help on the rotation if his health does not improve in the coming weeks.

The worst seems to be in the mix for manager Ron Roenicke who has spent most of Spring Training looking for candidates to replace the injured contingent in the camp. Scottsdale, Arizona, is proving to be a testing venue for the club and it appears the cactus league is coming to terms with good candidates on the block. Nevertheless, Greinke’s return by the aforementioned date seems optimistic.

"If he's ready at that point, I'm going to be really happy," Roenicke said. "I just don't know if he's going to be ready then. I think we're not really planning on that early."

The pitcher has yet to play catch, so far and his cardiovascular training is moving on schedule as his heightened heart rate tends to bring out the pain from the rib cage injury. Roenicke is looking at Wily Peralta to take the mound position for Greinke but his recent outing in an exhibition match depicted a rundown player. The 21-year-old conceded 3 doubles in the encounter, losing 5 runs as a result. His 3 walks allowed is what led to him being pulled out from the attack by Roenicke.

"It's the same thing, just coming in and, whether it's the big-league setting and he thinks he needs to make a good impression, whatever it is, he's not himself," Roenicke said. "We need to get him to relax and pitch the kind of ballgame we know he can. Hey, at that age, I don't know if I could do that, either."

Whatever the case may be, Greinke’s loss will be hard to cover for in the new Major League season, which is set to start on the first of April.
