Yuvraj Singh targets Commonwealth Bank series for comeback - Cricket News Update

The stylish Punjab all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh – who is battling a non-malignant tumour in his lung -  is eying Commonwealth Bank series in Australia in February next year for his comeback to the competitive cricket.

The 30-year-old world cup hero of India told the media reporters on Sunday that he is on a course to quick recovery and will soon take the field back.

"I'm getting ready to play again. I am targeting the ODI series in Australia," Yuvraj told the media reporters on the sidelines of a promotional event.

The Chandigarh all-rounder, who was adjudged as the Man of the tournament for the ICC World Cup 2011 jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, was diagnosed with a non-malignant tumour in his left lung last month. Due to the tumour, the middle-order mainstay of India opted out of the recently concluded five-match home ODI series against West Indies. He was also not picked for the Test leg of upcoming Australia tour for the same reason.

When asked whether he had some disappointment at being unable to make Australia squad, Yuvraj said: "No I'm not disappointed. For me health is more important."

Reminiscing the ordeal, Yuvraj said that it was a tough period for him and his family. The left-hander also acknowledged the support of his mother, Mrs. Shabnam Singh.

"It was a very difficult time. It was a crucial period for me and my family when I learnt about the tumour. My mother supported me a lot during my recovery," said Yuvi, who is celebrating his 30th birthday today.

"I didn't reveal about the diagnosis earlier as I did not want any extra attention from the media and the people," he further added.

India is scheduled to play four Tests and two T20 Internationals against Australia in Australia this summer. The Test and T20 series will be followed by a tri nation ODI series featuring India, Australia and Sri Lanka.

Yuvraj also congratulated Virender Sehwag for his record breaking double ton against West Indies last week and termed Sehwag’s 219-run knock as one of the best innings he had ever seen.

“It is one of the best innings I have ever seen. It is highly unlikely that any batsman will ever go past it," said the stylish Chandigarh cricketer.
