Will Jose Mourinho pick City or United?

Jose Mourinho the self proclaimed special one is by far the most charismatic manager of his generation. It is not often that a manager is the one making most of the headlines, despite having some of the best players in the world in his team. But so is the aura of the Portuguese that regardless of what his team does on the pitch, he ends up making most of the headlines.

These days the special one is linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu.  The former Chelsea boss signed up for the job at Real Madrid before the season began, but has not had the expected impact on the Galacticos.  His team trails the league leaders and defending champions Barcelona by 5 points, but did manage to make it into the quarter finals of UEFA Champions League after 6 long years.  Still there are reports coming in from Madrid that the management is not totally convinced by his style of management, and he is also in a dispute with the top brass regarding the funds being made available for the summer purchases.

As a result rumours of Jose moving out of Spain are gathering pace, and now it is being pondered on whether he will join Manchester City or Manchester United.  For now Manchester City is being tipped as the likely destination for Mourinho.

According to reports published in British media Roberto Mancini is on "borrowed time" following the team’s exit from Europa League. After that Manchester City lost to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge that is believed to be pretty much the last nail in his coffin. And it is believed that the wealthy owners of Manchester City are interested in bringing Jose Mourinho to the club.

Manchester City owners are believed to be ready to offer a 10 million pound per year contract to Jose. The question still remains on the preference of Jose Mourinho who has for long shown interest in taking the job at Manchester United. However since United boss Sir Alex Ferguson had reiterated that he is not going anywhere in foreseeable future, Manchester City may be the preferred choice in the end for the Portuguese.

Earlier it was believed that Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson may be considering calling it a day if he manages to win the title this season. It was long a dream of Sir Alex to break the record of Liverpool. The Reds have won 18 league titles in history of English game which is more than anyone in the country. In 2009 when Manchester United won their 3rd consecutive title they equalled Liverpool’s record. And it was believed that if Ferguson managed to win another one this season and goes past Liverpool he may be ready to call it quits. However his latest statements bag to differ and Mourinho’s hopes of landing the job at Old Trafford would have to wait.

Another interesting aspect of this whole story is that if Jose Mourinho is actually appointed at City in place of Roberto Mancini. It will be the 2nd time when the Portuguese would take over Mancini. 3 seasons ago at Inter Milan it was Jose Mourinho who replaced Mancini and ended up making history with the club in his final season by winning a historic treble of Serie-A, Italian Cup and the Champions League.

For now the final destination of Jose Mourinho is still up in the air, and who knows if he does manage to win the domestic league or the champions League he may yet decide to stay at Real Madrid.
